Meet our Selection Committee: Pablo Zinger 🇺🇾

Pablo Zinger is widely acclaimed as a conductor, pianist, composer, arranger, writer, lecturer and narrator, specializing on Astor Piazzolla, tango, Spanish zarzuela, and Latin American music.

He has worked with singers for over 45 years, coaching the Italian, French, Portuguese, Spanish, German and English repertoire, and running an audio/video studio out of his home.

He accompanied Plácido Domingo at Washington’s Constitution Hall, conducted for Paquito D’Rivera’s Carnegie Hall 50th. Anniversary Concert and the Moscow première of Piazzolla’s María de Buenos Aires, narrated Piazzolla’s Pueblo Joven at Tokyo’s Opera City and accompanied legendary Spanish diva Sarita Montiel in NYC.

He tours and records frequently with the Valencia-based Zinger Septet and has written for The New York Times, Opera News, and lectured for The New York Philharmonic.

His CD’s include Tango Apasionado with Astor Piazzolla, Chamber Music from the South and The Clarinetist, with Paquito D’Rivera, Las Puertas de la Mañana (songs of Carlos Guastavino) and two albums of music by Carlos Suriñach with Bronx Arts Ensemble.

Meet our Selection Committee: Levi Hernandez

American baritone Levi Hernandez has established himself as one of today’s most versatile singing actors, earning praise from Opera News for his “voice with natural power” and “warm, inviting baritone.” An El Paso native, he has appeared with many of the nation’s leading opera companies, including The Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, LA Opera, and Houston Grand Opera.

A sought-after interpreter of both standard and contemporary repertoire, Hernandez has performed roles including Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Don Magnifico (La Cenerentola), Bartolo (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Lescaut (Manon Lescaut), Alvaro (Florencia en el Amazonas), Dandini, Tonio, Gianni Schicchi, Marcello, Papageno, and many others with companies across the United States and internationally.

Equally active on the concert stage, he has appeared as soloist with orchestras including the Kansas City Symphony, Oregon Symphony, Virginia Symphony, Utah Symphony, Tucson Symphony, and Phoenix Symphony in works such as Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer, and Orff’s Carmina Burana.

A finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and Operalia, Hernandez is a graduate of Westminster Choir College and the University of North Texas. He also studied at the Academy of Vocal Arts and was a member of the renowned Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Meet our Selection Committee: Shelén Hughes Camacho 🇧🇴

Bolivian soprano Shelén Hughes Camacho began her artistic journey as a Bolivian folklore singer and dancer in Cochabamba before pursuing classical music. A graduate of The Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music, she is a winner of the 2025 George and Nora London Foundation Competition, the 2024 Opera Index Competition, and First Prize at the 2024 Gerda Lissner Zarzuela Competition. Recent highlights include debuts with Oper Frankfurt (Alcina), The Cleveland Orchestra (Carmina Burana), and Carnegie Hall with the Oratorio Society of New York, as well as performances at Lincoln Center and the Cliburn. She is also the founder of Voices for Bolivia, a nonprofit organization dedicated to using music in service of protecting the human rights of elderly individuals living in poverty.
