Three years since October 7, “survival” in Gaza still means giving birth in a tent, traveling long distances by foot for the nearest care, and rebuilding life with almost nothing—over and over. For women and girls, every ordinary day takes extraordinary effort.

That’s where you come in. Your support is what keeps a safe space open, puts menstrual and maternal supplies in the hands of young girls and mothers, and brings a midwife to a birth that would otherwise happen alone. It’s the difference between surviving a day and starting to heal.

When someone’s answer is heard and respected—the first time, and every time after—that's not a small act. It’s what safety actually looks like, and for millions of women and girls around the world, it’s the line between harm and dignity.

A culture where consent is the norm is a culture where women and girls are safer. It's the same principle behind the work we support every day: care for survivors of violence, services built on dignity and choice, and communities where a woman’s no carries weight.

Three years of war. 1.7 million people displaced. And for women facing violence at home, even reaching help can mean a journey they can't safely make.

Across Gaza, safe spaces reach only about 17% of the roughly 1,600 displacement sites. So UNFPA introduced their first mobile safe space—bringing counseling and protection to women who can't travel to reach it.

A newborn is the most fragile thing in the world. In Gaza, mothers are delivering them in tents every day—without reliable food or a safe place to sleep.

Thanks to a well-known performer’s decision to speak up, Gaza has been back in the news. But long after the headlines move on, UNFPA stays with the families on the ground—staffing hospitals, running mobile teams, and reaching a pregnant mother wherever she's been displaced.

When the floods hit Nepal, UNFPA aid workers poured into the area to deliver lifesaving, critical care. Now, our supporters want to thank those brave, tireless workers directly.

So they wrote. Dozens of notes—to the midwives, the healthcare workers, and the aid teams reaching families across Nepal in the days after the flooding. We're sharing a few here, in their own words.

These notes are for the people who show up when a crisis is at its worst: setting up safe spaces for women to give birth, reaching survivors, and staying long after the headlines move on. The gratitude in these notes belongs to them.

Last week, we introduced Mary D. Lindsay, one of our co-founders who named USA for UNFPA in her will so her support for women and girls would continue beyond her lifetime. This week, we're sharing how you can create a legacy of your own.

It sounds complicated, but it can be done in two simple ways:

1. Leaving a gift in your will or trust and deciding the amount, asset, or percentage.

2. Naming us as a beneficiary on an account you already have.

A gift of any size is welcome, it costs nothing today, and you can change it whenever you like.

Meet Mary D. Lindsay, one of the co-founders of USA for UNFPA.

More than twenty years ago, she helped establish our organization after the U.S. government cut all support to UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency.

She believed Americans would step up to close the gap—that belief then built USA for UNFPA.

Mary’s trust in the generosity and compassion of her peers remains just as crucial today as U.S. funding for this work has once again been cut.

What made Mary remarkable was not only what she gave in her lifetime, but the legacy she left after. She named USA for UNFPA in her will, becoming one of our first legacy donors, so that her commitment to women and girls would continue after her.

“UNFPA’s lifesaving services will continue to be vitally important. I simply can’t imagine a more rewarding way to be remembered than knowing that young women and girls will continue to benefit from what I am able to give back. It makes me feel that my time on earth has been even more valuable and worthwhile.” — Mary D. Lindsay
