The war brought a growing concern among the AGBU leadership about the plight of Armenian women and children, particularly those living in Bedouin tribes. In 1918, AGBU enlisted the assistance of British intelligence services and funded missions to rescue them and bring them back to Armenian communities. Various missions led by Levon Yotneghperian and Rupen Herian resulted in the recovery of hundreds of women and children between June and August 1919.

On May 7, AGBU France hosted its annual end-of-internship reception for students from the French University in Armenia (UFAR) at the Armenian Students’ House in Paris.

This year, fifteen students traveled to Paris for a unique professional and cultural experience, gaining valuable exposure through internships and connections with partner organizations and mentors. The Class of 2026 was especially marked by a strong female presence, reflecting a new generation of ambitious Armenian youth looking toward the future with confidence and global perspective.

Throughout the evening, internship supervisors, institutional representatives, and students shared reflections on their experiences and the lasting impact of cross-cultural and professional exchange programs.

AGBU extends its gratitude to all partner companies, internship supervisors, the Armenian Students’ House, and everyone who continues to support this longstanding program of Franco-Armenian cooperation and youth development.

AGBU is proud to expand digital literacy initiatives for teachers across Armenia through its Tech Training for Teachers program. Focused on the “Digital Literacy and Computer Science” curriculum, the program equips educators with modern technological knowledge, practical tools, and innovative teaching methodologies to better prepare students for the future.

To date, 240 teachers from Yerevan and regions across Armenia have completed the program, with plans to reach approximately 400 teachers by the end of this year.

To further advance this initiative, AGBU and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding to continue supporting digital education in Armenia’s public schools.

The memorandum was signed by Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Araksia Svajyan and AGBU Armenia President and AGBU Central Board member Vasken Yacoubian.

Through partnerships like this, AGBU continues to invest in education, innovation, and the development of future-ready generations in Armenia.

In the Second World War, thousands of young American-Armenian men and women did their part to fight for the freedoms and values we hold dear. To commemorate Memorial Day next week, AGBU honors the Armenians who fought.

Soon after the war ended and victory was achieved, AGBU formed a special "Our Boys" committee of local chapter leaders nationwide. The committee contacted their respective constituencies and compiled each servicemember's name, photos, and key data to memorialize them for posterity and unite these veterans of Armenian descent in their communities and across the country.

It took time, patience, and resourcefulness to realize the committee's goal through this special two-volume publication, "Our Boys-Honoring the Armenian-American Veterans of World War II," with one in 1942 and the other in 1951. Should you wish to share your family member's picture and information with us, please send it to [email protected].

During his meeting with His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, Pope Leo XIV offered prayers for peace in Lebanon and the Middle East, calling attention to communities once again affected by violence and instability.

The Holy Father also reflected on the enduring ties between the Armenian Apostolic and Catholic Churches, highlighting St. Nerses Shnorhali, the 12th-century Armenian Catholicos, theologian, poet, and advocate for Christian unity. He described Shnorhali as a “pioneer of ecumenism,” noting his recent inclusion in the Roman Martyrology.

At a time of continued uncertainty across the region, this message of dialogue, peace, and shared spiritual heritage resonates deeply with Armenian communities worldwide.

The art of rug weaving is an age-old tradition of the Armenian people, tracing its roots back to the Bronze Age. Practiced across a vast geographic expanse spanning the Persian, Ottoman, and Russian empires, Armenian rug weaving developed a rich diversity of regional styles, patterns, techniques, and production methods. Beyond their role as weavers and designers, Armenians also played an important part in the international carpet trade, serving as merchants and intermediaries who helped connect the markets of the East with Europe and the wider West.

Earlier this week, AGBU London presented a special screening of a powerful documentary on Missak & Mélinée Manouchian — figures of the French Resistance and survivors of the Armenian Genocide. Directed by their great-niece Katia Guiragossian, the film weaves history, family archives, and a story of love and struggle rooted in resistance and memory.

Following the documentary, a live Q&A with Katia Guiragossian sparked powerful conversations about the atrocities committed against the Armenian people over a century ago and their will to survive and overcome the massacre.
