Thanks to everyone who joined us for Currents 12 at the and at last week! This edition of the series was co-commissioned by the Moers Festival and featured new works by Jonah Haven and Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir.

Jonah entrusted us with a deeply personal work inspired by the poetry of Mary Oliver, Bergrun made us into a superorganism (particularly effective in this resonant church, see slide 3!!) thank you both for your generosity and imagination in creating these new pieces for us ✨

If you weren’t able to attend, the archival livestream is available online the website.

Being at the felt like stepping into an amazingly joyful world built entirely around curiosity, openness, and musical experiments✨

We began on the main stage with ‘s After Nan Shepherd: stark, dark, spacious music that felt really thrilling to share in that setting. It was also wonderful to collaborate with the luminous@taraling for the first time on this project!

Then came Currents 12, featuring pieces by Jonah Haven and . The resonance in the church was extraordinary, and this program is both beautiful and weird in the best of ways. If you missed it at Moers, we’re bringing the program to in NYC THIS THURSDAY.

There was also the Pianomobil (a Moers institution) got to perform for residents at a retirement home, rolling through the park, and bring music into unexpected corners of the city.

We’re very grateful to everyone who listened, organized, helped, and shared these days with us.

Program notes below, 🔊ON for slide 2!

SUPRASEETHER explores the interplay between performers and their environment as they are dissolved into a shared, teeming field of awareness. Feelers extended, wanting to be limbs unfurled - the quartet as organism, sensing at the edges of its conditions. The sound becomes a field of perception, a body that listens as it negotiates with itself to breach their boundaries, shaped through contact, pressure and proximity. The material slipping away as it emerges, heeding a call towards impending fission.

Still reflecting on two emotional and beautiful performances of Be Holding as part of the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh.

It was an honor it was to share this project, one we’ve lived with for so many years, at such a legendary festival at the with Brooke O’Hara directing and music direction by .tyshawnsorey_official

This iteration featured Ross Gay reading his own work alongside with amazing . We’ve heard this text a hundred times, and it still feels moving, new, and deep each time…

Many thanks to .oli for lending his talent to this project and joining us as a guest percussionist, and much gratitude to the entire staff at the Lovette YMCA, along with the fantastic group of teenagers who brought so much joyful energy to this experience!

Also to for making it all sound so good (no small feat in a gym!), to for shaping such a dramatic visual world, and for the amazing video design.

We’re also immensely grateful to and for providing two grand pianos for these performances.

Until next time! 🏀❤️🎹🥁

We spent a fantastic week in Aarhus for the ! What a privilege to bring back ‘s epic Grosso and perform it with the under the direction of Joseph Bastian!

The following day we performed a brand new piece by Mads Emil Dreyer as well as one of our longtime favorites, Orchestra for Black Butterflies by

There was a theme through the week: each piece came with its own slightly unreliable extra band member: a Leslie speaker for Grosso, a music box for ‘s new work and motors for Lisa’s piece… all adding their unpredictable charm to the performances.

Massive thanks to the incredible production teams at the and the for making everything run smoothly, no small feat given the sheer amount of gear involved in these performances!

Last but not least, all our apologies to the for the heroic quantities of smoked salmon consumed at their fantastic breakfast buffet.
