🚨 Twiggy Needs Our Help 🚨
On August 16th Twiggy was found by adopters in Maspeth, Queens, heartbreakingly thin. The photos don’t really show just how skeletal she was. She only weighed just over 4 lbs. We arranged a wellness visit at The Neighborhood Vet & amazingly, her bloodwork was better than expected considering her poor condition. But there was something else worrying us… Twiggy was bumping into furniture as though she couldn’t see. Her pupils were enlarged, which can be a sign of vision loss or pain.
Still, this tiny girl was eating well & settling in. She found a quiet spot in a closet to sleep & her wonderful fosters made her a cozy little kitty cave where she could feel safe.
Then, on September 15th, they found a pink, wound-like mass on one of her mammary glands. Twiggy was scheduled for surgery & the entire mammary chain on that side was removed. We hoped desperately for good news, but the biopsy came back malignant. Poor little Twiggy has mammary cancer. 😔
The recommendation now is to remove the mammary chain on her other side. We know surgery is unlikely to cure her cancer, but it can give Twiggy something incredibly important… more time & more love & comfort with the awesome people who rescued her.
After everything this little cat has already endured, we really want to give her that chance, but surgery & ongoing medical care are expensive, so we need to ask for your help. Please consider donating toward Twiggy’s care; every little bit truly adds up & allows us to keep saying yes to cats like Twiggy when they need us most. 💗
