“We don't have a past or a future without a story.”

As part of our ongoing Board Member series, we are showcasing the work of our board: an extraordinary group of filmmakers, advocates, and artists. Their work reflects a shared commitment to storytelling. Board member Stephen D. Smith MBE continues to explore the role of narrative, not only in remembrance, but in how we understand the world around us. “That’s not poetic language—it’s literal. The words ‘history’ and ‘story’ share the same root.”

His work reminds us that narrative is not an accessory to history, but its foundation: how experience is carried, understood, and passed on. “What I learned is that how we remember the past influences how we make decisions about the future.” The way stories are told shapes what comes next. May 5th is Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s (MMIW) Awareness Day. May their stories be heard, their memories carried forward. The color red calls the spirits of missing and murdered women and girls back to their loved ones. They are not gone from this world’s memory.

Every generation inherits the Earth from those who came before - and holds it in trust for those who come after. This Earth Day, we honor her with gratitude, with reverence, and with a renewed commitment to listen. Visit our linktree to watch A Different American Dream(2016) and more of our films on ecocide.

What once felt like a binary debate, criminalization vs. legalization, is in reality more complex. New research, lived experiences, and shifting policies continue to raise questions and spark debate. This 4/20, we’re revisiting our feature documentary POT LUCK(2020) alongside recent reporting that explores the realities of cannabis.
Rather than offer conclusions, we invite conversation. What are we learning? What remains uncertain? And how do we hold space for nuance in a conversation that so often resists it? Explore the clips, read the articles, and share your thoughts below. Watch POTLUCK: 3generations.org/film/pot-luck/ Pot Luck

As we mark Yom HaShoah, we remember lives lost and those who carry their stories forward.
Our film Preserving the Holocaust follows young conservators at Auschwitz-Birkenau working to safeguard artifacts and memory, ensuring history continues to speak across generations. In our latest blog, we reflect on how this work resonates in the classroom through a collaboration with Holocaust educator Anne Flick and her students, who explore what it means to be brought “safely in and safely out” of this history.

As we mark the end of Ramadan and Eid, we are thinking of Imran, whose story has long been a part of our community. Over seven years ago, Imran shared his journey in Imran: A Refugee’s Journey, tracing more than 14,000 miles across continents in search of safety. A Rohingya genocide survivor from Myanmar, he spoke not only of unimaginable loss, but of what it means to have hope. ✊🕌

His story, and that of all refugees, continues. Imran has been tirelessly and passionately advocating for refugee rights, standing alongside his community and speaking out. In recent months, Imran has been dedicated to honoring the life of Nurul Amin Shah Alam and calling for accountability in the wake of his tragic death.

As one of our 3G advisory board members, we are so proud of Imran, deeply grateful for his continued work, and for the courage it takes to share his story. To watch Imran: A Refugee’s Journey, visit the link here: https://3generations.org/video/imran-a-refugees-journey/

An evening where history breathed and stories found their voice. We were honored to witness a live performance earlier this month of Hitchcock & Bernstein: The Film. The reading was followed by a rich and thoughtful conversation that brought past and present into dialogue. Our founder, Jane Bernstein Wells, joined the panel alongside writer Martin Jameson and historian Toby Haggith, in conversation with documentary filmmaker Tim Samuels. Her contributions to the research behind the drama made the moment all the more meaningful.

THE KENYA PROJECT has not been filmed yet, but the work has already begun. Today is the final day of GlobalGiving Little by Little campaign. As funds have diminished, 3 Generations encourages a larger impact with our sister campaign, Leap by Leap, in which all gifts over $100 will be matched. Help bring this story forward.

Lasting change happens when care is built to remain. At Cl****al Restoration Surgery in Kenya, local physicians lead the work: expanding access, training others, and ensuring care continues. THE KENYA PROJECT will document the communities and collaborations making this possible.

Matching funds may be gone, but the GlobalGiving Little by Little campaign still persists. 3 Generations encourages a larger impact with our sister campaign, Leap by Leap, in which all gifts over $100 will be matched. Support the work on the ground.
