“The ocean remembers what we forget.” 🌊
For World Ocean Day, we share our conversation with Peter B. de Menocal, oceanographer and President and Director of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
His message feels especially urgent following reporting last week in The New York Times that the Trump administration intends to dismantle the Ocean Observatories Initiative, a network of more than 900 deep-sea instruments that track critical indicators of planetary change. The system has been described as one of the most advanced continuous ocean observing networks ever built.
At a moment when the need for knowledge is growing, the tools that make that knowledge possible are becoming more fragile. 🌎🐠♻️ One ocean connects us all. And right now, it is asking us to pay attention.
