💙 Forward in Focus: Meet Janice!

This Giving Tuesday, we're celebrating the Scholars whose journeys reflect the power of opportunity, mentorship, and community—and who are now creating opportunities for others.

Meet Janice, a sophomore at Skidmore College and a first-generation college student who earned a full scholarship through the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP).

Janice describes her college experience as “rocky but amazing.” Through the challenges, Gotham Scholars has remained by her side, providing mentorship, tutoring, and the resources she needs to succeed.

Today, Janice is thriving academically, pursuing her passion for mental health and therapy, and giving back as co-founder and vice president of Skidmore's First Gen Society. The student organization helps first-generation students build connections, find support, and navigate college life.

Janice's journey reminds us that when we invest in one student, the impact can reach so many more. 💙

📚✨ Learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door!

From October through June, our Scholars have opportunities to take what they’re learning and apply it through field trips, hands-on experiences, and real-world connections.

📚 WE’RE HIRING!

Gotham Scholars is looking for a passionate, experienced College Seminar Teacher to join our team for the 2026-27 academic year! 💙

This part-time, paid position is perfect for an educator who believes learning should go beyond the textbook. Our College Seminar challenges high school Scholars to strengthen their critical thinking, research, writing, literary analysis, and communication skills while exploring interdisciplinary themes and real-world issues.

We’re looking for someone who can create an engaging and supportive learning environment, challenge students to think deeply, and help them grow both academically and personally.

📍 Hybrid: Zoom instruction + NY/NJ class trips
📅 Thursday evenings, 6:30-8:15 PM + weekly office hour
🎓 5+ years of high school teaching experience preferred
