Saturday 10/31/26: Weekend Sketchers in Ditmas Park Brooklyn

NYC has no shortage of Halloween events, and this year we will be sketching in the Ditmas Park neighborhood of Brooklyn. Our focus will be the legendary, over-the-top haunted house at the corner of Albemarle and Argyle. The victorian home is owned by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire and his wife, who take Halloween very seriously. Skeletons emerge from the ground among gravestones, the wrap-around porch is chock-full of animatronic haunted clowns, ghosts, zombie children, a giant werewolf, and homicidal pigs. A dozen skeletons with beaming red eyes climb the exterior of the house, and giant spiders take over the fence. There is a butcher with a massive mallet and a circular saw for hands, a possessed dog that leaps out of a doghouse, and ghosts on the windows.

Of course there will also be dozens of cute little trick-or-treaters in the neighborhood in sketchable costumes. Dress warm and prepare to be frightened!!!

Canstruction is an annual event, that takes place in multiple cities around the country, to support awareness of food insecurity. The NYC location is Brookfield Place. Design firms around the city enter this competition where the sculpture is made completely of canned foods. At the end of the exhibit, all of the food is donated to food kitchens around the city in time for the Thanksgiving meals. Join us this week as we take a look at this year’s competition. Saturday 10/24/26: Weekend Sketchers at Coney Island

Join us Saturday to sketch the iconic Coney Island. The boardwalk, the beach, the ocean, a carousel, colorful vintage storefronts and signage, classic rides, and people, people, people! NYC fixtures such as The Wonder Wheel, the Parachute Jump, The Cyclone and Nathan’s Famous should offer plenty of inspiration. Looks like it’s going to be a beautiful fall day, so we can sketch this NYC treasure while avoiding the heat and crowds of the summer.

Join us for a day of lovely respite from the bustling City. Chuang Yen Monastery is a large Buddhist temple complex located on 225 acres in Putnam County, New York, about 50 miles north of New York City. Chuang Yen means “Majestically Adorned”. This monastery is indeed majestically adorned and welcomes us to artistically render it all. Indoors or outdoors you will surely find something to adorn your sketchbook.
