Why I’m Walking Toward a World Free of MS:
I began serving as a team captain for what was then the Judith Jaffe MS Center, now the Weill Cornell MS Center, in 2012, at the suggestion of my first MS neurologist, Tim Vartanian. He gave me my official diagnosis in 2011. I had, and continue to have, complete confidence in him and his expertise, which led me to move away from taking a DIY approach to managing my MS and instead fully trust the care and guidance he provided.
To me, Tim was the crown jewel of my MS journey, a brilliant neurologist, a dedicated researcher, a mentor to so many exceptional scientists, a loving husband to Joanna, and a proud father of three beautiful sons. He was a true rockstar in every sense of the word, someone we were incredibly fortunate to know not just professionally, but personally.
Now, we are facing the unimaginable loss of someone so impactful. As many have said, none of us could have ever been prepared for this. Life isn’t always fair, but this loss feels especially heavy.
This year, I walk in honor of his life, his legacy, and the profound difference he made in so many lives. 🧡
