From the bin, your empties come straight to our facility, where they’re sorted and prepped so they can actually be processed — since most curbside systems can’t handle beauty packaging in the first place. Clean it, drop it in a bin, and we’ll take it from there.

Step 1: Soak at least 5 empties in warm soapy water. This also helps to conserve water rather than running the tap 🧼

Step 2: Make sure all the residue is out and leave them to dry 🙂‍↔️

Step 3: Bring them with you on your next shopping trip for an easy drop-off! 🛍️

From the drop-off bin to New Matter™
Once your empties are collected some can be transformed into New Matter™ resin.

From there, they can be reshaped into new items like trays and soap dishes, giving beauty packaging a second life instead of it ending up in landfill.

It’s a small shift in what you do with your empties, but it plays a big role in keeping materials in circulation!

Cleaning your empties doesn’t take long! Here’s how to clean a toothpaste tube in under 60 seconds for demo purposes. In real life, we recommend saving up at least 5 empties and soaking them together in a bowl of warm water and soap instead of running the tap, to help save water.

For tubes specifically: cut the top open so you can actually get inside, then use a straw cleaner to get any leftover residue out. Once it’s clean and dry, it’s ready for the bin!

If you’ve been tossing these straight in the trash, this is your sign to stop. A lot of beauty packaging is too small or too mixed-material for curbside recycling to handle — which is exactly the gap Pact exists to close.

Mascara wands, skincare bottles with droppers, small bottles and jars, lipstick tubes, and compacts and palettes are all accepted, as long as they’re clean and empty. No sorting confusion, no special prep beyond a rinse — just clean it, dry it, and drop it off.
