Grace Institute is New York City’s leading tuition-free job training program for women

Grace Institute of New York trains and empowers women to achieve employment and economic sufficiency. Through workplace training, wraparound services, job placement, and an extensive alumnae network, Grace Institute provides all of the tools necessary for women to realize their career aspirations and enter the workforce with confidence. Founded over 125 years ago, Grace Institute is dedicated to serving unemployed and underemployed women between the ages of 18 and 64 in New York City, with a special focus on women of color and single parents. We are proud to support a group of diverse, skillful, and experienced professionals on their path to success.

Today marks a huge milestone - it’s the first day of specialized training for our Grace Institute participants!

Over the past eight weeks, our talented participants have built a strong foundation in essential administrative skills during core training. Now, they’re advancing to the next stage: specialized training aligned with their individual career goals.

That’s a wrap on our in-person A Moment of Grace sessions hosted by Grace Institute’s social worker Carolyn Susty!

Together, we spent time learning, connecting, sharing, and reflecting on what it truly means to prioritize mental health and well-being. We closed out this week’s final gatherings with meaningful reflections, delicious treats, and special giveaways.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and created such a supportive, open space. Remember: taking a moment of grace for yourself isn't just nice to have—it's essential.

Please join us in welcoming the newest member of Grace Institute’s Board of Directors — Lyndal May!

Lyndal is a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley and serves as Global Co-Head of Sponsors Hedging and Head of North America Events Hedging within Global Capital Markets. She has spent 15 years at Morgan Stanley, beginning her career with the firm in Sydney, before relocating to New York in 2014. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Lyndal worked at IBM Global Business Services, where she focused on public-sector consulting projects across emerging markets.

Alongside her professional responsibilities, Lyndal has a longstanding interest in advancing women’s financial independence and economic agency. She believes financial independence is relevant to women across the income spectrum and is fundamentally about choice—the ability to shape the direction of one’s own life.

At Morgan Stanley, Lyndal is a mentor within the firm’s women’s network, with a particular focus on supporting mothers returning to work following maternity leave. She has also contributed her experience through pro bono consulting with Hour Children, an organization supporting incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women and their families as they rebuild their lives and transition back into their communities.

Lyndal holds a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance and Economics, from the University of Melbourne. Raised primarily in Melbourne, Australia, she has lived in New York since 2014 with her Australian husband and their two sons.

Last Friday, six Grace Institute alumnae gave their final FM Ignite presentations as part of the IFMA Essentials of Facility Management program, offered in partnership with IFMA Greater New York City Chapter.

In front of a room of facility management professionals, these women presented their case study work with confidence and clear command of the material. It was a proud moment for them and for all of us at Grace.

Facility management is a field many of our alumnae hadn’t considered before. It offers strong career pathways and needs people who are organized, resourceful, and skilled at working with others. Grace graduates bring all of that.

Thank you to Annette Vega, Alexandra Liz and the IFMA NYC team for building this experience with us, and to every FM professional who came to listen, ask questions, and encourage our students. Your support shows them they belong in this industry.

Next, the cohort moves on to industry connections and mentorship, with a wrap-up in late November. If your organization works in facilities or real estate and is looking for talented, motivated candidates, we’d love to connect.

Thank you to the fantastic volunteers from the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) Eastern Chapter for spending the afternoon with us yesterday!

It was an empowering event focused on building connections and developing key professional skills. After connecting over lunch, participants and volunteers paired off for in-person mock interviews.

Thanks to the valuable feedback and insights shared by the PLUS team, our participants left feeling confident and prepared as they launch into the job search phase of their training.
