“Vendors run the smallest businesses in our city, and they have been out there for decades, and they always wanted to access the license, but sadly, the outdated laws have been getting in their way for the last half a century,” said Mohamed Attia, the managing director of the Street Vendor Project, an advocacy and legal support group.

This week, nearly 100 vendors joined NYCDCWP ‘s virtual hearing on the general vendor license waitlists to ensure their voices are heard.
As the agency is finalizing the rule-making process, it must meaningfully prioritize longterm vendors and incorporate their feedback.

Vendors want an equitable process that will put an end to 47+ years of injustice.

We’re counting on Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani Deputy Mayor Julie Su NYCSBS to make sure the vendors are front and center in this process.

This is once in a lifetime opportunity to serve thousands of street vendors and deliver a sense of justice for them.

The Street Vendor Project seeks an experienced and dedicated Program Coordinator to facilitate our small business development and environmental justice work with street vendors. Reporting to the Programs Manager, this individual will provide street vendor small business owners with the tools, resources, and skills needed to grow their businesses while improving their environmental exposure and impact.

Must be Bilingual in Spanish and English, written and spoken.

When the New Yorker’s elected representatives pass a law to protect immigrants and treat our city’s smallest businesses fairly, the NYPD shouldn’t be allowed to just ignore it. The time is now for City Hall to remove street vending enforcement from the NYPD.

Despite the New York City Council passing a law to ensure that vendors no longer face jail time or find themselves in the deportation pipeline for simple vending violations, the NYPD continues to issue criminal summonses for violations like vending too close to a crosswalk.
