Street Vendor for a Day at📍 City Hall!

A major shout out to Workers Justice Project - Proyecto Justicia Laboral and all the unions and worker centers who continue to fight alongside us to protect and uplift workers across the city.

This morning, we joined Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani, unions, worker centers, and leaders from the Administration to make an announcement regarding the upcoming extreme heat 💦 and new protections for workers.

🌞 More than 1.4M New Yorkers work outside for extended periods of time. The risks to vendors and other workers has been overlooked for too long.

👏 Thank you to Mayor Mamdani for today's executive order strengthening the city's efforts to protect workers like street vendors during extreme heat.

🗳 Each year, our members gather to elect a Leadership Board of 16 deeply invested organizational members. Board Members are representatives of the membership and engage in organizational decision-making.

“Our city must back the historic victories won by street vendors, delivery workers, and other essential workers with a robust investment in outreach and education,” said Mohamed Attia, Managing Director of the Street Vendor Project. “Culturally competent and multilingual outreach by trusted community organizations is essential to ensure these new laws succeed. The time is now to invest $5 million for the Worker Rights Organizing and Education Initiative to ensure vendors and other essential workers know their rights, protections, and responsibilities under the new laws.”

🚨Today: Street Vendor Project Workers Justice Project - Proyecto Justicia Laboral DRUM - Desis Rising Up & Moving and Laundry Workers Center members rally and made a press conference at the NYC City Council calling for a new funding initiative to implement recently passed landmark protections and laws for gig workers and street vendors. We are urging investments to support 100,000+ workers in delivery, rideshare, street vending, laundry, and other low-wage sectors—expanding outreach, workers’ rights education, organizing support, and access to resources so workers can learn about their new rights, come forward without fear, and thrive in NYC. ✊🏾

Shout out to incredible Aquaduck vendors who collectively rented a truck 🚚 and volunteered 🧹💪 to clear trash and debris from the streets in the area where they vend in East New York.

🙏 A big thank you to Councilman Chris Banks for your support, which allows SVP to continue outreach and education to vendors in East NY and beyond!

Speaking to vendors about our Environmental Justice for Vendors, by Vendors program 🔋✊to help them transition from generators to electric alternatives.

We distributed these 👇devices to measure electricity usage and understand what type of battery setup is right for each cart.
