Happy New Year!
2023 was a year filled with unexpected twists and turns, moments of pure joy and overwhelming sorrow and experiences of tremendous gains and tragic losses. We watched people rise up in protest against the establishment, felt the impact of political unrest, experienced wars breaking out around the world, watched inspiring acts of heroism unfold before our eyes and succumbed to the gross abuses of power and authority perpetuated by leaders both near and far. In the midst of all of these moments in time, we experienced ourselves and others consciously and unconsciously Stepping Up and Stepping Back in various ways.

As we embark on this new season, the Big Apple Playback Theatre company invites audience members to consider what it means to STEP UP and STEP BACK when the world is moving in so many directions? Come share collective stories about how we are STEPPING UP and STEPPING BACK in our lives and the implications for those choices. Come to listen, share and witness as leaders, caregivers, friends, lovers, teachers, advocates, artists and other HUMANS explore how our footprints are leaving an indelible mark in the world.

JUNETEENTH PLAYBACK is back! Big Apple Playback is excited to be part of this now annual playback tradition started by BAPT and Oakland Freedom Theater last year, featuring the wonderful work of Shawnee Benton Gibson, Sipiwe Moyo, Kimeiko Rae, Kimberly Rattley, Dave Ross, and Arianna DeJur.

To create an affinity space, the show is performed by BIPOC performers exclusively for audience members who identify as BIPOC.

Black + Afro-Latinx folks + all our BIPOC siblings, join us in this space for healing. Your rage, grief, joy, power - it's all welcome. You tell your stories, and our Juneteenthers play them back with theatre, music, and love.

Non-BIPOC folks, donate $25+ so this Black-led space can be free to our BIPOC audience. Invest in Black artists to shine and be in community with one another!
