It's been over a year since the Trump administration massively increased the scale of ICE raids occurring across the country. As conditions in detention centers worsen, deportations occur faster, and ICE operations grow more violent, it's clearer than ever that we must look out for our neighbors.

In our latest episode of "Out With It," Family Equality CEO Darra Gordon speaks with Heidi Altman from the National Immigration Law Center and Bridget Crawford from Immigration Equality about the unique threats LGBTQ+ immigrants face in this moment and how we can most effectively protect our communities. We also hear from Indiana-based couple Rosie and Claudia on how they've maintained activism in a time of lawlessness.

❗️ BREAKING: The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) officials announced that a grand jury returned an indictment against the Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit who has fought white supremacy and other forms of injustice for more than half a century.

CEO of Family Equality, Darra Gordon states, "Family Equality stands in solidarity with the Southern Poverty Law Center in its protection of civil rights for all. We condemn the weaponization of the DOJ to attack civil rights nonprofits. Our democracy depends on us speaking out and showing up and that’s exactly what we’ll do."

⚖️ BREAKING: This week the Supreme Court of the United States agreed to take up St. Mary Catholic Parish v Roy, a case about whether states can ensure that all children have equal access to publicly-funded preschools — regardless of the sexual orientation of their parents.

Senior Director of Education Law and Policy, Nikhil Vashee states, “All families have a right to belong in the classroom — and in all aspects of their day-to-day life — without exemption or exception."

SUBMITTED ‼️ Family Equality just submitted our third federal comment letter of 2026 — and this time, we brought a coalition of 44 leading organizations with us. Together, we submitted formal comments to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services opposing the administration's attempt to eliminate the only federal protections ever created for LGBTQI+ youth in foster care under Titles IV-E and IV-B.

And once we spoke up, others did too. National partners and state organizations across the country spoke out against HHS's cruel proposal, reinforcing the same powerful message: LGBTQ+ kids deserve protection.
