Treehouse Shakers Treehouse Shakers, is a non-profit theater and dance company based in NYC. We currently have 9 original shows on a rotating tour for babies to teens.

We also provide arts in education residencies, public workshops, and staff developments. Treehouse Shakers currently has 6 shows on a rotating tour, a bi-annual performance season, several new web-series, and partner with numerous schools and organizations to provide in depth arts in education residencies, staff developments and workshops. Every child deserves imagination to grow on.

Our Annual biddingforgood auction is now open and we need your help! Every single bid, no matter the amount makes a big difference.

And we have so many wonderful items! From trips to Italy, Hawaii, The French Open, Wyoming and more, to all of the health and wellness items people love to bid on, our our many items for art including a series of exquisitely made hand-pulled prints by awarded artist Florence Alfano McEwin many self help items including nutrition consulting with the thoughtful and generous Jasmin Greene Ilkay (our wonderful school collaborator) and an incredible anti-racism coaching session with Takiema Bunche Smith (we can attest first hand to Takiema’s amazing expertise), tickets to The Joyce Theater (one of our personal favorites).

This performance season marks Treehouse Shakers 30th Anniversary 🎉

And we are digging through the archives (before digital photos, cell phones, and computers.) The company was founded by artists MaraMcEwin and Emily Bunning who were childhood friends and began their dance and theater collaboration Stephens College while undergrads. Their very first Treehouse work was Dance of My Daughter, for adults, which performed for two weeks at a sold out run Ensemble Studio Theatre

The play, written & directed by MaraMcEwin and choreographed by Emily Bunning featured many artists including Carrie Fellens Valerie Green/Dance Entropy Lara Hayes Giles Virginia Jones Tucker and many artists and performers who are no longer with us, but we continue to honor their beautiful memories including Steven Petrillo & Kimmy Gamble

We held our 2026-2927 Branching OUT teacher training, and we are soooooo ready for the new school year! 🚌✏️📚

Special thanks to Routh Chadwick, Founder at Joie de Vivre for an incredible training session, and to our wonderful roster of teachers, who are such incredible humans and artists. We can’t wait to work with all of our school partners again!

Branching OUT is Treehouse Shakers LGBTQIA+ programming for ages 12-14, that fosters the arts, community and joy for young people. We also offer staff developments, Pride Specials and more. Exciting news! Our awarded play for babies, Flutter 🦋, for ages 6-18 months, is returning to NYC! Tickets are now on sale through our website or the link above.

We will be Mark Morris Dance Center in Brooklyn and Alvin Ailey Studio Theater in Manhattan this coming November. Seating is limited!

See the show that has wowed audiences at Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Alvin Ailey, and theaters across the country.

We are holding company auditions! September 9 & 10. 2026. We are seeking talented, collaborative, creative, hardworking individuals who are looking to be a part of a larger performing company. Looking for individuals to grow with the company.

Even if you have auditioned before, but would like to be considered, please reach out.

Auditions will be held before 2pm on September 9, callbacks on September 10.
Must be available for rehearsals during the week, typically Monday & Tuesday 10am-2pm. Looking for dancers who can act, and actors who can dance. Puppetry skills a plus. Please email us a headshot, resume, reel and a note about why you would want to be a part of our performance company.

Every day is Pride 🏳️‍🌈💕🏳️‍🌈 We continue to stand up to injustices facing the LGBTQIA+ communities.

It is our job as artists, as leaders, as teachers, as humans, to push against these injustices. Branching OUT are awarded programs to serve Middle & HS students who may identify as LGBTQIA+ or as allies, or for the general classrooms or staff developments to lead teachers in how to create more inclusive curriculum. This programming began 6 years ago, and continues to grow. We would love to collaborate with your school community.
