While media coverage often brings attention to cases with fatal outcomes, domestic violence is not limited to isolated incidents or headline-making cases. It is a pervasive, ongoing issue rooted in power and control, affecting individuals from all backgrounds, often in ways that remain unseen. Many survivors experience patterns of emotional, psychological, financial, and physical abuse long before it escalates to extreme violence.

Womankind is committed to ending gender-based violence and ensuring survivors have the resources and support they deserve. If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, Womankind is here to help. Contact our free and confidential helpline (last slide).

We are only one week away from an inspiring fireside chat with Jane Chen moderated by Karen Choi. 📖

In her best-selling memoir, Like a Wave We Break, Jane chronicles the rise of Embrace Global—the company she co-founded that has helped save over one million babies. When the organization nearly collapsed after a decade, she was forced to confront how growing up amid domestic violence had shaped both her deep commitment to serving the most vulnerable—and the burnout and personal breakdown that followed.

Taking place during Mental Health Awareness Month and AANHPI Heritage Month, the discussion will explore themes of mental health and cultural stigma often experienced within the AANHPI community, resilience, preventing burnout, and what it means to rebuild after breaking.

📅Date: Tuesday, May 19
🕡Time: 4:00–5:00 PM ET
📍Location: Virtual (Zoom link shared upon registration)
🎟️Tickets: Free – General Admission; $50 – General Admission + Signed Book + Donation to Womankind

Last month, the Womankind community came together for an evening of art, music, and connection at our Brooklyn Community Office. In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, this one-day exhibit featured works by survivors and allies of gender-based violence—first shared during our Hear Our Voice virtual exhibit last October.

Guests explored the exhibit, enjoyed a live string quartet performance, dinner, and took part in hands-on activities—from making bookmarks to getting henna tattoos.

Thank you to our community members, volunteers, and staff for making this evening possible through every piece of art shared and every helping hand. A special thank you to the Ulysses Quartet from Schneider Concerts at The New School and Henna by Neha NYC for sharing their unique art mediums with guests.
