Tomorrow, we are proud to honor the historic accomplishments of so many remarkable leaders like Delroy Lindo, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, and the Honorable Gabriellle Kirk McDonald at our annual National Equal Justice Awards Dinner. And the recent Callais decision is only further evidence of why the work of these leaders is so critical.

Events like NEJAD help ensure that LDF has the resources we need to continue to combat racial discrimination. No matter the circumstances, we must continue to center and celebrate Black joy, wherever we can find it.

Our ancestors fought, bled, and died for the Voting Rights Act. Now it’s our turn to protect it. On May 16, we’re proud to stand with organizers, advocates, faith leaders, and communities from across the country at the National Day of Action for Voting Rights. The fight for democracy didn’t end in Selma and it won’t end now. Join us this Saturday: AllRoadsLeadToTheSouth.com

Our parents and grandparents marched, organized, bled, and put their lives on the line to secure the right to vote. Now, the fight to keep it is ours.

The shameless destruction of the Voting Rights Act is a reminder that we all have unfinished business. Our fight is not over. Join us in Montgomery, Alabama, for the National Day of Action for Voting Rights.

Our public safety system will continue to fail Black people with disabilities unless we invest in resources that prevent violence against them. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we urge states and localities to invest in programs and resources that will meet the needs of people with disabilities instead of criminalizing them.

Millions of taxpayer dollars will be spent celebrating 250 years of history that did not include everyone. At the same time, we are facing ongoing efforts to roll back the progress many Black activists fought, bled, and died for.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 moved us closer to democracy where every voice was heard and every vote counted. Regardless of the Supreme Court’s ruling, that work is not finished. We must all vote to fight for our voices to be heard!

Teacher Appreciation Week reminder: teachers don’t just live in a classroom––they live in your community. Change starts locally. As voting rights are under attack, honor the legacy of Selma’s foot soldiers by hosting a teach-in that educates and mobilizes your people.

LDF President and Director-Counsel Janai Nelson sat down with Roland Martin Unfiltered to discuss how elections are being impacted by the U.S. Supreme Court fast-tracking a redraw of Louisiana’s congressional map while denying a motion to recall the judgment of Louisiana v. Callais.

Today we honor civil rights activist, Gloria Richardson. As a leader of the Cambridge Nonviolent Action Committee (CNAC), created in 1962 to target segregation and racial inequality happening in Cambridge, Maryland, and the first woman to lead a grassroots civil rights organization beyond the South, Richardson paved the way for future activists all over the country. Richardson’s fearless dedication to economic justice and Black liberation continues to inspire and carry us in our own work.

On Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Day, we honor the lives of Indigenous women and girls whose lives were taken too soon. We have a responsibility to protect Indigenous communities, who continue to face systemic violence and threats to their wellbeing. That means listening to and uplifting Indigenous voices, supporting Indigenous organizations like National Indigenous Women's Resource Center, Native American Rights Fund, and Not Our Native Daughters, and advocating for change.
