Net of Compassion

Net of Compassion Every Saturday, rain or shine since 2010, tents are set up on a strip of Main Street in Worcester, MA.

Net of Compassion provides hot meals, food and clothing, hot showers, shelter, and recovery support through faith-based peer support and a strong network of providers. The set-up is an integral part of Net of Compassion's street ministry. Richie Gonzalez started this ministry of hope and mercy for those suffering in addiction and homelessness. Richie (who is in recovery) was diagnosed with HIV/AID

S 14 years ago, and has been clean for many years. When talking about the street Gonzalez explains, "It’s where the hurt ones are, where the broken ones are. The only way to revive people is by loving them.”

With the help of volunteers, Richie begins setting up around 9 am every Saturday at 674 Main Street. His wife Elizabeth (who co-directs the Net of Compassion / Red de Compassion alongside him) leads a group of volunteer cooks in a kitchen across the street. At noon, the street begins to fill up with hundreds of homeless and drug-addicted people in search of a good meal. Gonzalez prides himself on making sure that everyone is well fed. “We bring them the best,” Gonzalez says smiling. “We give them a complete meal with the same love that I give to my kids.”

Net of Compassion hot meal program and Pantry will be canceled this Saturday January 24 due to weather. Emergency 24hr shelter is opened today Friday January 23rd at the gym of Worcester Vocational School. Please Share.
