This Wednesday, the Worcester Common Oval is going to sound incredible. 🎶

Join us for the next Out to Lunch Festival & Farmers’ Market on Wednesday, August 26, from 11 am to 3 pm, featuring a very special afternoon of music presented by our friends at Crocodile River Music.

At noon, Mozambican artist Albino Mbie takes the stage with his captivating blend of Afro-soul, jazz, and traditional rhythms.

Then, around 1 pm, don’t miss an energizing intermission performance from Haitian group Kandjanwou Rara — bringing the vibrant music and movement of Haitian Rara to the heart of Downtown Worcester.

Come for lunch. Stay for the music. Experience an afternoon connecting cultures, communities, and sounds from around the world — all right here Downtown. 🌍

You might be looking at the arepa. We’re also looking at what’s underneath it. 👀

Sustainability is something we’ve been thinking a lot about, and working to build into the Out to Lunch Festival & Farmers’ Market, for the past several years.

Together with the City of Worcester, Massachusetts’ Department of Sustainability & Resilience, we’ve incorporated more sustainable practices and resources — including thinking about all those plates, cups, containers, and utensils used to serve thousands of lunches over the course of a summer.

For the second year, our partners at WIN Waste Innovations are helping us make a more sustainable choice. At select dates this summer, they’re generously providing compostable serviceware to participating food vendors at no cost.

Our vendors appreciate it. It removes an expense for the small businesses participating in the event AND helps more of the materials used at Out to Lunch make their way into the compost stream rather than conventional waste.

And it’s one piece of a bigger effort. Some other things we’ve incorporated:

♻️ Compost, recycling + waste sorting stations
🙋 City sustainability staff helping you figure out what goes where
🛍️ Reusable farmers’ market tote bags
💡 Sustainability + energy-efficiency resources, including the City’s Smart Energy Advice Program

(And yes, those compostable containers have found some other uses, too. Last year’s microgreens eating contest with Just For Fun Farms was definitely a memorable one. 😂🌱)

These are practical changes we can continue to build on as Out to Lunch grows.

Because what’s in your lunch matters… but so does what your lunch is in. 🧡

Just THREE Wednesdays remain this season for Out to Lunch! Come check it out next Wednesday, August 26, from 11 am to 3 pm on the Worcester Common Oval. ☀️

If you know Downtown Worcester, there’s a good chance you know Miguel. 🧡

And we’re excited to share that he’s been selected for the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 2026–27 Leadership Worcester class!

As the Downtown Worcester BID’s Operations Manager through our partners at Streetplus, Miguel spends his days out and about Downtown, leading our Ambassador team, connecting with businesses and property owners, solving problems, and helping make our district cleaner, safer, and more welcoming.

Now, he’ll have the opportunity to take that experience beyond Downtown — learning more about the people, organizations, challenges, and opportunities shaping our entire city and region alongside an incredible group of fellow community leaders.

Miguel also joins several other BID team members who are Leadership Worcester alums, including Program Coordinator Alex Monaco (LW ’26), Marketing Director Lisa Malo (LW ’22), as well as former Program Manager Andrew McShane (LW ’22).

We believe investing in Downtown means investing in the people who care for it every day, and we can’t wait to see what Miguel brings back to from the experience.

Congratulations, Miguel and to the entire incoming 2026–27 Leadership Worcester class! 🎉

Did you catch Downtown Worcester BID Program Coordinator Alex Monaco on 90.5 WICN’s *Culture Beat* with DJ Bonnie Johnson earlier this week? 🎙️

They chatted all things Out to Lunch Festival & Farmers’ Market, plus some of the other fun events happening in Downtown Worcester this summer.

Missed it? You can listen now at: https://wicn.cachefly.net/content/player/playlist21061615155310.html — it’s the August 13 episode. 😊

And, you can catch Bonnie in person on Wednesday, August 26, when she’ll be back to MC Out to Lunch on the Worcester Common Oval! ☀️🎶

Huge thanks to our media partners (and GREAT neighbors) at WICN for all their support of our summer events Downtown. 🧡
