As International Assistance Dog Week comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the incredible impact assistance dogs have on the lives of children and families around the world.

These remarkable dogs are highly trained partners that provide independence, confidence, safety, companionship, and opportunities that help their handlers thrive every day.

At Canines for Disabled Kids, we’re proud to support children and their families by providing education, advocacy, and guidance throughout the assistance dog journey. Every partnership represents hope, dedication, and the life-changing bond between a child and their dog.

As we wrap up this week of recognition, we’d like to thank the assistance dogs, trainers, volunteers, families, and organizations working every day to make greater independence possible. Together, we’re helping create a more accessible and inclusive world.

Sunday is the last day of Abilities Expo Houston 2026! There's still time to learn All About Service Dogs in the Events Arena
Sunday opens at 10:00 am with a quiet hour. Kristin and SD Rocky will be available for individual conversations before and after the presentation in the Events Arena at 11:15 am
These amazing teams share their time and skills showing a variety of skills and great behaviors of service dogs, facility dogs and therapy dogs
What will be demonstrated tomorrow?

Happy Anniversary ADA!

We've done much in your first 36 years - Service dogs are critical tools helping thousands of people with disabilities live more independent lives. These specially trained animals work with children and adults using a variety of trained skills to help people access the world: getting dressed, doing laundry, attending class, get to work, alerting to sounds and so much more.

You will see service dogs with students, athletes, lawyers, artists, executives, actors, politicians... There is no limit!

When we have the right tools, we can do everything!

This video of a student working with her service dog at school is a favotrite of ours. This team had many adventures including a feature on the Animal Planet show Dog 101. This pup has passed but his legacy lives on in his successor and all those this team inspired
