Thank you to everyone who joined us for our May Luncheon, sponsored by Akkodis, for an engaging discussion on engineering in the next decade of aerospace in Wichita.

The panel brought together industry leaders to explore the future of aerospace manufacturing, with conversations centered on smart manufacturing, AI, emerging technologies, MRO, engineering innovation, and workforce transformation. Panelists shared valuable perspectives on how organizations across the industry are navigating an evolving aerospace landscape while preparing for the next era of growth and innovation.

A special thank you to Ryan Hamze from ISG (Information Services Group), Shreyans Shrimal from Akkodis, and Pierre Harter from Wichita State University for sharing their expertise and insights, as well as Rolf Kramer from Akkodis for leading the discussion.

A key takeaway from the luncheon was that while Industry 5.0 and AI continue to shape conversations across aerospace, the path forward depends on building strong operational and workforce foundations first.

We are sad to hear about the passing of Wichita's very own "Rosie the Riveter", Connie Palacioz, who has passed away at the age of 101.

At 17 years old, Connie went to work for The Boeing Company in Wichita and served as a riveter on the B-29 production line from 1943 to 1945 in the factory that built 1,644 B-29 Superfortress bombers. Along with thousands of other women, she stepped up and worked on the bombers to provide assistance during World War II.

In 2000, when B-29 DOC returned to Wichita for restoration, Connie joined the volunteer team to help return DOC to flight. Since then, Connie spent 26 years as an active and crucial member of the B-29 DOC team, serving as an advocate for DOCโ€™s mission while sharing her story and the stories of other Rosie the Riveters. Her mission was to honor the legacies of the men and women who designed, built, flew and maintained B-29s during WWII.

We were fortunate to have Connie attend a few Wichita Aero Club events, including one of the Rosie the Riveter Day mixers, which we were happy to celebrate women in aviation alongside her. She was a national hero and Wichita legend.

The 14th Wichita Aero Club Golf Classic will now be hosted at Tex Consolver Golf Course on Friday, May 8 from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Please note that the location for this event has changed. Each year, this event helps the Wichita Aero Club to raise funds for educational and industry outreach initiatives. Sign up as an individual golfer or as a team of four!
