◆ Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Pop-Up Party for 'Past & Present: Celebrating New Acquisitions and Collection Highlights at the Wichita Art Museum'! The cold weather didn't stop the party; guests enjoyed exploring our brand-new exhibition, captivating dance performances in the gallery from Smack Dab Dance Lab, being serenaded by the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, creating a mural in real time with Armando Minjárez Monárrez, and getting on the dance floor with DJ Marcus El!

We hope to see you at tonight's Pop Up Party for 'Past & Present: Celebrating New Acquisitions and Collection Highlights at the Wichita Art Museum'! This amazing exhibition celebrates WAM's world-class collection, including dozens of new acquisitions—more than 20 of which have never before been on view. All of this excitement calls for a pARTy: WAM Style!

◆ Friday, October 16th | 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM | Free & open to the public
• Explore the exhibition with live music by Wichita Symphony Orchestra musicians, inspired by WAM’s collection.
• Experience Smack Dab Dance Lab artists’ original choreography created in response to the exhibition (6:45 and 7:45PM).
• Make a mural with Armando Minjárez Monárrez.
• Dance with DJ Marcus El under Dale Chihuly’s Confetti Chandelier.
• Sip and snack on signature cocktails and treats from EAT.
• Celebrating Educators: Teachers with faculty ID are invited to have a drink on us, unwind with artmaking just for you, and learn more about educator resources at WAM.

◆ This Sunday at Tallgrass Film Festival, be sure to view "Safer Waters: Artist Stephen Towns on Paradise Park"! This film was produced by the Wichita Art Museum and directed by WAM's Museum Curator, Dr. Tera Lee Hedrick; Chloe Lang, Registrar and Director of Collections and Exhibitions at WAM; and Lu Vickers, professor at Tallahassee State University. This short film covers our recent exhibition 'Safer Waters: Picturing Black Recreation at Midcentury' by Stephen Towns - Visual Artist ◆

Film Description: "During a period of Jim Crow laws, strict segregation, and unrelenting racism, Paradise Park—a central Florida lake attraction for Black people that flourished at midcentury—provided an opportunity for African Americans to briefly escape oppression into a world of joy and leisure. "Safer Waters: Artist Stephen Towns on Paradise Park" highlights the craftsmanship of fiber artist and figurative painter Stephen Towns's Paradise Park series along with the archival photographs and interviews of the park's workers and visitors that inspired him."

We're happy to support TOP Early Learning Center Northwest in teaching their students about the postal service and fostering community by participating in their letter exchange program. Students mailed letters and artwork to Kat Smalley, WAM's LEAP: Gallery and Studio Programs Specialist, and she had the pleasure of replying to these wonderful messages! ◆

Receive a brief from a museum inspector in the Boeing Foyer, investigate the Art Garden, and gather clues in '(im)permanent' and 'Past & Present: New Acquisitions and Collection Highlights'. Then, create a working theory in PLAY. Reward for mysteries solved: prizes from the Museum Store and the chance to win a WAM Household Plus Membership.
