ABOUT THE COMPANY

Ballet Wichita, a non-profit arts organization and one of Wichita’s oldest and largest performance arts organizations, performs for over 23,000 people annually. Over the past three years, the company has increased its reputation for creating and presenting new, entertaining, exceptional dance and continues to build its touring schedule, performing classics to communities through

out the state. Through the company’s arts outreach programs, each year Ballet Wichita buses nearly 6,000 elementary-age students to its annual matinée performances of “The Nutcracker” (often a first-time exposure to both dance and live theatre for students). Ballet Wichita engages new audiences by performing its family friendly, free Ballet in the Park series in the summer and fall in local parks throughout the region. In small, impromptu and intimate appearances throughout the year, the company collaborates with schools and local arts and non-profit organizations to promote dance and support the thriving Arts scene in Wichita. These alliances have expanded the company’s educational and outreach programs that have received commendation and support from both the Kansas Health Foundation and The National Endowment for the Arts, and helped earn us the 2015 Arts Organization of the Year Award from the City and Wichita. Through the Ballet Wichita Institute, BW is committed to providing exceptional opportunities in dance for dancers of all ages and skill levels, including the chance to train with professional guest artists in residencies and master classes. Students attending our workshops and dancing in our productions represent nearly all the studios and numerous universities and colleges from across South Central Kansas; we are grateful for the enduring relationship we have with the talented teachers, schools, and countless arts and cultural organizations in our community.

Seeing these characters come to life in the studio has been a reminder of how many hands shape a production long before opening night.

A huge thank you to for hand making the costumes for every Ballet Wichita production. 🩰✨

From the first sketch to the final stitch, her work helps bring each story to life on stage, and we are so grateful for the care and artistry she puts into every detail.

Make sure to follow Jan to watch the costume process behind each show unfold. 🤍

Every stitch helps shape the world of Alice in Wonderland.

Long before the curtain rises, costumes begin the work of storytelling. Fabric choices, textures, and hand-finished details all become part of how each character moves through Wonderland on stage.

This process asks for patience, collaboration, and an incredible amount of care from the people behind the scenes who help bring a production to life.

Alice in Wonderland tours with Ballet Wichita this season. Follow along for more moments from the studio, costume shop, and rehearsal process. 🩰

Alice in Wonderland is going on the road this summer!

Three Kansas towns, three stages — including one we've never danced on before:

🐇 June 19 — Ottawa Memorial Auditorium
♠️ July 11 — Granada Theater, Emporia
🌹 July 18 — McPherson Grand Opera House

The whole production is being built from the ground up — new costumes made in our own shop, original choreography by Katie Andrusak that moves between classical, neoclassical, and tap, and projection design we've created with Wichita State.

We're bringing the full show to you ✨

Tickets for each city are linked on our website! See you in Wonderland!

Have you ever heard of pancaking pointe shoes?

If you’re a dancer, this probably isn’t news to you... but if you’re not, welcome to one of our favorite little secrets. 🩰

Pancaking is a little dancer hack where we add makeup to our pointe shoes so they perfectly match each dancer’s skin tone. The smallest details really do help create the most polished final look.
