🌱 Congratulations to Owen Halfmann, one of six delegates selected for the inaugural Texas Youth Forum, hosted by the Texas Section Society for Range Management!

As a delegate, Owen will research a rangeland management topic and present his findings during the “Rangeland Rising Stars” session at the TSSRM Annual Meeting on October 21.

🌱 Sometimes, a new perspective can change the way we see rangelands entirely.

Just two weeks into an internship with Audubon California’s Working Lands program, one young conservationist found herself at the Society for Range Management Annual Meeting, immersed in conversations about grazing, biodiversity, wildlife, land management, and the connections between them all.

The experience offered a firsthand look at how rangeland professionals are working across disciplines to support healthy landscapes and communities.

“I learned more in a week than a course could have taught me in a month.”

We love seeing the SRM community help introduce the next generation of land stewards to the science, collaboration, and possibilities of rangeland management.

🌎 SRM leadership on the international stage!

Society for Range Management President Dr. John Walker and 1st Vice President Delane Atcitty are in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, this week for the XV International Congress on Rangeland Management—and both are taking the stage as keynote speakers.

Under the theme “Rangelands and their people,” the Congress brings together researchers, producers, students and rangeland professionals to exchange ideas, experiences and approaches to sustainable rangeland management.

SRM’s participation also reflects the connections being built through our Mexico Section. A special thank you to SRM Director Carlos Ochoa, who worked with the Section to help coordinate John and Delane’s participation and ensure SRM was represented at this important gathering.

It’s a great opportunity to strengthen connections across borders, learn from one another and share perspectives from across the rangeland community.

We’re glad to have John and Delane representing SRM in Mexico—and grateful to Carlos and our Mexico Section for helping make it happen.

Utah State University College of Ag teamed up with Utah State Football Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall to promote sound range management across their state in honor of International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists.

Like Mendenhall said, football and ranching on the range have a lot in common: "show up when it's hard, do the work nobody sees, LEAVE IT BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT."

What a neat collaboration here!

Call for Abstracts: 2027 SRM Annual Meeting

Have research, practical experience, or innovative ideas to share? The Call for Abstracts is now open for the 2027 SRM Annual Meeting & Training, taking place in Wichita, Kansas in February 2027. The meeting theme, “Our Enduring Grasslands,” will highlight the science, stewardship, and resilience of rangelands and the people who care for them.

Researchers, land managers, students, and practitioners are encouraged to submit abstracts that contribute to the conversation on sustaining productive and resilient grasslands for future generations.
