Networking is Weird is a recurring social event for entrepreneurs led by Weird Portland United's very own president, !

This is a space for founders to get to know the humans behind the businesses.

You can expect curated conversations that go beyond the surface-level, room for organic connection, and some silly antics sprinkled in for good measure.

This isn’t a stuffy, all-business environment, but building real relationships will help your business in a meaningful way.

So bring contact cards and come ready to participate, connect, and be a little weird with us!

And stay afterward for the open mic. 😉

Networking is Weird is a free event series that will be every other Monday beginning April 27th from 515pm to 715pm at the University Station food carts.

At Mother Foucoult's, it's written in chalk on multiple walls that cell phones and laptop computers are strictly prohibited.

In one sense, there's a bit of guilt in having my phone out to capture the scene. In another sense, it would be a crime not to share how cool this place is.

Loosely compiled used books, random seating arrangements, and an antique aura make this place ideal for both a cozy read and a frantic study - something for everyone!

The slogan for the Ladds 500 is, "It's Spring, let's do something stupid."

Along the neighborhood roundabout, dozens of teams are counting up their collective laps to 500 rotations.

The center island is a lounge of home bases, shared food, and casual community.

To make it to the island, one has to wade through thousands of cyclists, and it can feel intimidating.

Thankfully, I crossed the path of someone who was wearing a neon vest. I asked him if he was a crossing guard, and he said, No, but would you like me to be? And in the next moment, he took me by the arm and led me through the river of cyclists, smiling and waving at traffic that made way for us.

The event itself was a barrage of Portland defining scenery, but that specific moment stood out to me as the underlying character of the city's locals.

The weather helped, but what really makes Portland glow is the people.

Beautiful day for a protest.

Portland's defining quality is that we believe in our marrow that the world is beautiful when people are allowed to be different.

We are fiercely protective of our rights to be individuals, and we make our protests doing what Portland does best:

Hosting life-affirming spectacles.

Last year, 40,000 people marched in Portland's second No Kings protest. The third will be taking place this Saturday, March 28th.

The Portland cherry blossoms are a natural phenomenon, but the truly awe-inspiring thing about them is the warm energy that people bring to see them.

There is like a cloud of love in the air that everyone is contributing to and drawing from, and I'm convinced the source of it is how thousands of people are coming to the same place with the same intention: to appreciate something pretty, and to be with people we care about while doing it.

There is like a sigh of gratitude that everyone is in on, and it's a welcomed relief from the constant footage of hurt and hate that we're bombarded by on our screens. Here is a moment's affirmation that there is a pocket of world where wholesome appreciation and uplifting relationships are an embodied experience.

The event is more than just capturing the scope of the bloom with a camera, it is a life-affirming example of how we gravitate toward beauty and community in Portland.
