First Tech Federal Credit Union has been a champion of our work since the beginning of FinAbility. They serve as thought leaders within our organization in many different capacities. From hosting domestic violence simulations, to co‑presenting at the Oregon Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence Annual Conference, to staff volunteering at our annual event, their partnership is truly holistic.

We want to share a special thank‑you to Keri Daniels, our co‑chair and dedicated FinAbility volunteer, for the time and care she brings to our organization. Her commitment reflects the spirit of collaboration that makes this partnership so meaningful.

Hi everyone!

My name is Megan, and I am the volunteer behind FinAbility’s social media! I am a marketing specialist at OnPoint Community Credit Union, in Portland, Oregon. I am originally from Minnesota and moved to Portland for college, seven years ago. I first connected with FinAbility through my first role at OnPoint and was drawn to its mission and unique way of serving people facing financial abuse. I believe that education is power, and that thoughtful financial education can help folks live happier lives. I am so grateful to be apart of the work FinAbility is doing to empower survivors through financial education.

I also volunteer on the SpeakOut committee and am passionate about creating events that bring out communities together. I hope to see you at our 2026 event!

2026 is a foundational year for FinAbility. We’re strengthening partnerships, hosting listening sessions across Oregon, and building the infrastructure needed to ensure every survivor can access financial safety.

We are so humbled to have FinAbility included in this American Banker’s Association article. It’s an honor to help elevate the conversation around the financial barriers survivors face as well as the role financial institutions can play in creating safer, more supportive pathways.

Take a look at this article highlighting our work including perspectives from our team as well as board member Angela Scott on how we’re helping financial institutions create safer banking pathways for survivors.

What began as a relationship at the branch level evolved into one of our first partnerships with a Financial Institution. Since the start of FinAbility, OnPoint Community Credit Union has been supporting staff learning, survivor-centered financial mentoring, and broader community resilience efforts.

We want to share a very special thanks to Hannah Lewis-BFAB founding member & strategic advisor, Kaysha Duffy-DEI insights advancing survivor program design, Peter Rector-financial education and program support, Erin Olinghouse and Erin Hurley-Media preparation support, and Megan Meckey-Social media volunteer, Todd Baize-video support, and the 6+ volunteers who were at 2025.

In 2026 we are looking forward to formalize and scale the amazing work that we have started together.

Monthly Pet Spotlight 🐾

Meet Mochi.

FinAbility's CEO, Stacy Sawin, adopted Mochi in November 2022. Though Mochi's backstory isn't entirely known, it's believed she endured 7+ years of abuse before being surrendered and then rescued.

Mochi and Stacy have been on a healing journey together. And though she doesn't know it, Mochi plays a big role in FinAbility's success through the love and emotional support she provides!

Recently, Mochi started playing with toys and spends her afternoons frockling in her yard. But her favorite part of the day is always morning snuggles.
