Thank you to our June volunteers and nonprofit partner Friends of Fort Williams Park!
Earlier this month, the Chickadeeds community gathered at Fort Williams for our last service event of the year! Together, we:
💚 Donated 48 service hours toward park stewardship
🌊 Heard from Friends of Fort Williams Park, who provides planning and stewardship for projects that support the Park’s ecology, accessibility, and open space
🌱 Pulled an entire hillside of invasive plant species while learning why they do not support the native bird and butterfly populations
🦅 Slowed down for a guided bird walk where volunteers were invited to observe their surroundings, and learn about the diverse bird species that call Fort Williams Park home. Along the way, we explored the connections between native habitats, migratory patterns, and the small actions communities can take to protect local ecosystems.l
💪 Conducted a beach clean up of Ship’s Cove, the Park’s rocky beach front of marine debris, lobster traps, garbage, and large sticks and logs, and
📚 Distributed a custom-made bookmark, complete with birding tips, to volunteers to commemorate the event!
This event was a beautiful opportunity to help get the park “summer-ready” and return our gratitude for one of Maine’s most treasured preserved spaces!
