Last night, during the curtain call of our final performance of HENRY IV, PART ONE, I challenged our audience to make Fenix history.

You answered that challenge! Together, you became the first audience in Fenix’s 18-year history to raise more than $3,000 in a single performance. In doing so, you broke our previous single-performance record and made HENRY IV, PART ONE the highest-grossing production in the history of Fenix Theatre Company. YOU DID IT, thank you!

Your donations go a long way in helping us pay our artists for their time and talent, expanding accessibility services, and supporting more extraordinary productions as we make our way to our 20th Anniversary in 2028.

And in the blink of an eye, we’ve reached closing night of our 18th summer of free Shakespeare in Deering Oaks Park. 🌲🎭 Please join us tonight, Saturday August 1st at 6:30pm at the bandstand to give our amazing cast and crew of HENRY IV, PART ONE a huge crowd for their final performance!

It’s going to be a gorgeous night. Pack a picnic, bring a chair or blanket, and enjoy outdoor entertainment as the sun sets on this professional production in Portland, Maine. 🎶 Music, ⚔️ sword fights, and the ✨ magic of live theater - who could ask for anything more?

Thank you to everyone who came out to the park tonight - and for your generous understanding & support as we called off the show to keep our actors safe due to rain-slick surfaces.

Thank you to the cast for serenading us with several songs from the show as it rained!

Thank you to the audience who stuck around in umbrellas and raincoats to donate, eat picnics, and sing along.

Michael Howard has a long history of theater performance and leadership in Maine, from work with Mad Horse Theatre Company to Acorn Productions and Naked Shakespeare Company. We are delighted he has spent the summer with us playing Sir John Falstaff in HENRY IV, PART ONE.

From teaching classes to performing, it’s been a Shakespeare-filled summer in Maine for Michael.

👑 WEARING MANY HATS... AND THE CROWN 👑
A celebration of Owen Philip Arthur covering the role of Prince Hal in Fenix’s production of Shakespeare’s HENRY IV, PART ONE

For the past two weeks, Owen has performed the role of Prince Hal, book in hand (but nearly off book!) while Keating has unfortunately been out with a dance-related injury.

We are so grateful to Owen for embracing this understudy role and absolutely rocking it - wowing audiences night after night with his performance.

Including multiple swordfights! (He’s also one of our Fight Choreographers.) ⚔️

All this while continuing to play all his other roles in HENRY IV, PART ONE!

Thank you Owen Philip Arthur ! And thank you to our phenomenal cast & crew for supporting Owen and each other throughout this process - and to audiences for your understanding, appreciation, and enjoying the magic of live theater!

Please also join us in wishing a speedy recovery to Keating ❤️‍🩹
