Hekima Place

Hekima Place Building the future- one girl at a time. Hekima Place is a home in Kenya for vulnerable and at risk girls. Founded in 2005 by U. S. Thanks!

The name “Hekima” was chosen for its Kiswahili meaning: Wisdom. native Kate Fletcher, the home opened with just 10 girls but has grown to 60 members of the Hekima Place family. The girls are given a loving, faith-based home with nutritious meals, health care, and, very importantly, an education to enable them to succeed on their own once their schooling is completed. At Hekima Place, each girl liv

es with a loving Kenyan staff member called "mum" – growing within a faith-based "family" with "sisters" (other orphaned girls) as companions and workmates. For more information, visit our website at www.hekimaplace.org

On this day in 1963, Kenya took hold of its Madaraka — its power and its future. A reminder that real change begins the moment people choose to dream together.

We believe in the power of community—that when people come together, they can create something truly extraordinary.

Today, we honor the brave individuals who fought for Kenya’s freedom and reaffirm our commitment to uplifting one another and building a brighter future together.

What does the reintegration process look like and why do we need your continued support?

No two girls have the same story, and because of that, no two paths forward look the same.

As we navigate the Kenyan government's reintegration process to ensure that we comply and are able to operate in Kenya, we are staffing a team of trained, compassionate social workers who are carefully reviewing each girl's individual needs, working with the family to ensure stability and a loving home, and crafting an individualized plan that puts her wellbeing first.

Some girls will return home, while some girls will continue to live at Hekima Place - all of them will continue to be supported.

Our commitment to them doesn't end - it evolves.

Thank you for continuing to walk alongside us through this transition.

Cartwheels and courage!

Confidence grows quietly. It grows in the moments when someone believes in you before you believe in yourself.

That's what the girls find at Hekima Place. A family that cheers them on, catches them when they fall, and sends them back out to try again.

And try they do. 💛

Camilla and Katrina are heading home with their mother.

Reuniting a family takes time, intention, and a plan built to last. Hekima Place walks alongside each family to ensure true stability is in place—before, during, and after the transition. And no matter what changes, one thing remains constant: our deep love and commitment to ensuring every girl continues on a path toward creating opportunities in her own life. We also ensure that each girl’s school fees continue to be covered, keeping her education on track and her future wide open.

This work is careful, individualized, and sustained, and it takes real resources. As we navigate this important transition in how we serve girls in Kenya, your generosity is what makes it possible.

Will you give today?

Your gift today ensures girls just like Camilla and Katrina never have to face these transitions alone.

I am honored to step into the role of Executive Director at Hekima Place and to continue supporting the work that so many have built and sustained over the years.
Many of you may already know me. I have had the privilege of serving with Hekima Place for the past few years. In that time, I have seen firsthand the incredible dedication of our community in Kenya — our staff, the Mums, and the girls and young women themselves — and it has only deepened my commitment to this mission.

Hekima Place has always been rooted in the strength, care, and leadership of those who show up every single day for these girls. That foundation, first established by our founder Kate, is what makes this work so meaningful — and my role is to support, strengthen, and help steward it alongside our Board and our wonderful community of supporters.

I am so grateful to be on this journey with all of you. If you have questions, want to connect, or simply want to say hello — please reach out. I would love to hear from you.

Laughter echoes through Hekima Place.

From the classroom to the shamba, from homework to weekend fun - these girls are thriving. They are curious, creative, joyful, and full of possibility. This is what you make possible.

You are part of the Hekima Place family — and we are so grateful for you.

Meet Camilla and Katrina.

The twin sisters came to Hekima Place because even though their mother loved them with everything she had, she couldn't provide a life that they deserved. A severe medical condition and limited income left this family separated, not by lack of love, but by lack of resources.

Sadly, their story isn't unique. Many of the girls at Hekima Place face the same invisible barriers.

As Kenya moves forward with reintegration policies, the way we serve girls like Camilla and Katrina is evolving. One thing will never change: our unwavering commitment to every girl's safety, healing, and future.

We walk this road alongside them, every step of the way. We hope you’ll continue to walk with us on this journey.
