Recovery doesn't have to mean separation.

At Sojourner House, mothers can receive residential substance use disorder treatment while their children live with them.

While Mom participates in therapy, builds skills, and works toward recovery, her children can remain close to her and experience the routines of everyday family life.

Through Sojourner House MOMS, families can continue working toward stability with housing and supportive services.

Our approach recognizes that a mother's recovery and her children's well-being are connected.

Because when a mother has the opportunity to heal, possibilities can change for an entire family.

A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful groups from the University of Pittsburgh and Carlow University who recently spent time volunteering at Sojourner House MOMS!

Our volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help clean up and refresh our play yard, creating a more welcoming outdoor space for the children and families we serve.

Projects like this are about more than sprucing up a space. They help create places where children can play, explore, laugh, and simply be kids while their families work toward stability and brighter futures.

We’re grateful for the time, energy, and care these volunteers shared with our community.

Recovery takes a community—and we’re thankful to have Pitt and Carlow as part of ours. 💜

Sojourner House is seeking a compassionate, skilled Full-Time Therapist to join our multidisciplinary treatment team in Pittsburgh.

At Sojourner House, mothers can receive residential treatment for substance use disorder while remaining with their children. Our therapists play an important role in helping women strengthen their recovery, address behavioral health needs, rebuild stability, and create healthier futures for their families.

We’re looking for someone with:
• A master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, chemical dependency, or a related field
• At least two years of relevant behavioral health or human-services experience
• Knowledge of substance use disorder treatment, recovery, and trauma
• A commitment to supporting women and families with compassion and respect

Pennsylvania clinical licensure and experience with ASAM criteria, DDAP regulations, residential treatment, or child welfare systems are preferred.

💜 Your work can help change the trajectory of an entire family.

Every child deserves a safe place to sleep, an opportunity to learn, and the stability to simply be a kid.

For children experiencing homelessness or housing instability, everyday routines like attending school, completing homework, and spending time with friends can become much more complicated.

Tomorrow, the Homeless Children's Education Fund will bring attention to these challenges through its Stand Up Rally.

At Sojourner House MOMS, we recognize how important housing stability and supportive services are to the well-being of children and families.

We're proud to support efforts that keep the needs of children experiencing homelessness in the conversation.

Because every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.

September may have been National Recovery Month, but recovery doesn't follow a calendar.

Every day at Sojourner House and Sojourner House MOMS, mothers and families are working toward healthier, more stable futures.

Recovery happens in big milestones and small everyday moments. In a mother discovering her own strength. In a child finding comfort in a familiar routine. In a family beginning to imagine new possibilities.

As we enter October, our commitment remains the same: providing compassionate support that helps mothers and children move forward together.

Recovery Changes Everything. And every day brings another opportunity for change.

National Recovery Month may be ending, but the work of recovery continues every day.

So does our commitment.

Every day of the year, Sojourner House works alongside mothers and families as they heal, rebuild, and create healthier futures together.

And every day, donors, volunteers, staff, partners, advocates, and neighbors make that work possible.

Thank you for standing with families in recovery this September — and throughout the year.

Recovery doesn't end when September does. Recovery Changes Everything.

A strong future starts with thoughtful planning—and people who are committed to making it possible. 💙

We’re grateful to the members of the Sojourner House and Sojourner House MOMS Boards of Directors who gave their time and energy at Saturday’s Board Retreat.

The day provided an opportunity for meaningful discussion, thoughtful planning, and collaboration around how we can continue strengthening our programs and supporting mothers and families on their journeys toward recovery and stability.
Thank you to our board members for sharing your expertise, asking important questions, and helping shape what comes next for Sojourner House and Sojourner House MOMS.

Together, we’re building a stronger future for the families we serve.
