In September, WHE held an approved radon training for school professionals at Intermediate Unit-1 in McMurray.

School professionals from southwestern Pennsylvania attended this hands-on session to build the knowledge and skills needed to test for radon in their school buildings.

Participants learned about radon and its potential health impacts, why schools should be tested, and how to conduct radon testing effectively in accordance with EPA protocols.

This PA DEP-approved training was designed to support school professionals who choose to complete radon testing themselves in their own school district buildings while helping ensure high-quality testing practices.

Thank you to training provider Paul N. Houle, Ph.D., Principal of University Educational Services, Inc. in Mt. Pocono, Pennsylvania, for leading the session.

This training was supported by a grant from the American Lung Association through the Pennsylvania DEP State Indoor Radon Grant Program, administered by the U.S. EPA.

Protecting student and staff health starts with awareness, education, and action. Thank you to all who attended and are helping create safer school environments across southwestern Pennsylvania.

SmellPGH turns 10! Join the celebration tomorrow at Schenley Plaza from 4 - 7 pm.

As background, Smell PGH crowdsources smell reports so we all can better track how odors from pollutants travel through the air across the Pittsburgh region. In 2017, groups worked with the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) around design and daily data sharing for Smell PGH. After further collaboration with ACHD, starting Dec. 2021 smell reports are sent to the ACHD in bulk at the end of the day, together with daily aggregate geographic analyses of reports.
