This week on the podcast, Pastor Brad joins Allison to discuss what it means to have a heart transformed by the gospel. Together they explore the marks of a receptive heart, one that is soft, hungry for God, and dependent on the Holy Spirit, and discuss how true spiritual growth comes through surrender rather than self-effort.

In Romans 2, Paul reminds us that God is an impartial judge who sees both our actions and our hearts. Yet His judgment is met with kindness, patience, and ultimately the grace of Jesus, who took the full penalty of our sin upon Himself. When we recognize our hypocrisy, judgmentalism, and presumption, we’re invited to humble repentance and to turn from ourselves and toward God, whose kindness leads us to life through Christ.

In Romans, Paul shows us that understanding the power of the gospel begins with recognizing the depth of our sin. We exchange God’s glory, truth, and good design for idols, lies, and our own desires, which ultimately trap and ruin us. But the good news is that exchange is also at the heart of the gospel. Jesus takes our sin and gives us His righteousness, revealing the depth of God’s salvation and grace.
