☀️🍦 SCHOOL'S OUT... SUMMER'S IN! 🍦☀️

What better way to kick off summer than with a sweet treat and lots of smiles? 😎🌞

On Wednesday, the Macedonia FACE Bedford Team celebrated the end of the school year with our Bedford Dwellings families by welcoming students off the bus with ice cream sandwiches and popsicles! 🍨🍧

Thanks to the excitement and energy of our community, they handed out nearly 200 frozen treats as students officially stepped into summer break! 🎉

As backpacks get tucked away and summer adventures begin, we're looking forward to a season filled with fun, learning, laughter, and community connections. Whether it's outdoor play, family activities, reading adventures, or making new memories, we hope everyone has a safe and amazing summer!

Are you an older adult looking for ways to improve your health and wellness but unsure where to begin? Are you seeking guidance, support, or resources related to a health concern or chronic condition? Macedonia FACE Active for Life Senior Center is excited to join a national network of Senior Centers and community providers offering the BetterAge program (can you locate their page so that we can tag them?).

On Mondays from 9am-10am and Wednesdays from 12pm-1pm, staff will be available at the center to assist older adults with completing a brief BetterAge wellness survey. The survey takes approximately 7–10 minutes to complete and provides a personalized snapshot of your current health and wellness, while helping connect you with resources, programs, and supports available within the Hill District community. Our dedicated and friendly staff will work alongside participants to develop an individualized plan aligned with their personal wellness goals and interests.

Walk-ins are welcome during the scheduled time above. Appointments are also available for individuals who would prefer one-on-one support or need assistance outside of the scheduled walk-in hours. To schedule an appointment or learn more, please call 724-234-9751.

🎉 Join us in celebrating an extraordinary achievement! 🎉

Macedonia FACE proudly congratulates Carmen Ramsey Ellington, our dedicated Operations Manager, on receiving Allegheny College's Alumni Medal—the institution's most prestigious alumni honor recognizing loyalty and distinguished service.

Presented during Allegheny College's Alumni Luncheon over Reunion Weekend, the Alumni Medal has a rich history dating back to 1937 and is awarded to alumni who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and service to their alma mater and community.

A member of the Class of 1986, Carmen studied English at Allegheny College while actively participating in the Association of Black Collegians, The Campus newspaper, intramural athletics, and the pom pom squad. Since graduation, she has continued to lead and inspire, serving as President of the ABC Alumni Association since 2015 and contributing to numerous landmark initiatives.

Throughout her career, Carmen has championed nonprofit leadership at organizations including the August Wilson African American Cultural Center and the Hill House Association. Today, she continues her passion for service as Operations Manager at Macedonia Family & Community Enrichment Center, helping strengthen families and support communities throughout Pittsburgh's Hill District and Allegheny County.

Carmen's dedication, leadership, and commitment to uplifting others embody the values we strive to uphold every day at Macedonia FACE.

The 2026 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is now available for eligible older adults in Allegheny County. This year, Farmers Market vouchers will be distributed through a mailed application process rather than large in-person distribution events. Eligible older adults may receive $25 in vouchers to use at participating Pennsylvania farmers markets.

Applications are available now at the Macedonia FACE Active for Life Senior Center. If you need assistance filling out your application, you can stop by the center on June 3, June 10, and June 17th from 10:15am to 11:15am. Outside of those times, staff will only be available to give you an application or answer general questions.
