Pittsburgh Sakura Project's work session has been rescheduled to this coming Sunday.

The Work Session scheduled for Sunday, Sept 20 is canceled due to thunderstorms.

Our next Work Session will be Sunday, Sept. 27, 9 am to 11 am, followed by refreshments. Follow this link to learn how to volunteer (https://sites.google.com/view/pghsakuraproject-english/volunteer/volunteer-registration-form) and please register using the registration link on that page (write in the date of the work session if it is not already a choice). Content of work includes weeding and suckering, and perhaps a little mulching. With the wet summer, we have not needed to water so far, and weeds have grown quickly. A few trees have multiflora rose growing near their trunks. This is a particularly challenging invasive to remove.
Place: North Park, meet at our toolshed across from the Tennis Courts (see Maps)

Our Japan in the Schools program has kicked off for 2026-27! Last week, Katsuko, Educational Outreach Coordinator, gave an obi belt tying workshop to volunteers, and followed by a volunteer appreciation lunch. Without our volunteers, our programs would not be possible! Thank your hard work and welcome to our new volunteers. To find out more about volunteering at JASP, please check the link in the comment.

Pittsburgh Taiko is offering several one-day beginner workshops in August and September for people who want to try playing taiko, including if you are interested in joining our performing group. All workshops take place on Sunday from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at our studio in Bellevue, PA.

Each workshop is a 2-hour introduction to taiko, including some taiko history and culture, with a focus on hands-on basics. No previous music or percussion experience is necessary! You'll learn how to stand, how to hit, and how to play some simple patterns that come together to make a complete percussion melody.

Read more and register at JASP's website: https://japansocietypa.org/events.
We're excited to see you there!
