Last Monday, our chapter joined a delegation of 18 Taiwanese-American advocates from across New York State to speak to our representatives on Capitol Hill about ongoing legislation bolstering U.S.-Taiwan relations. We spoke to the importance of Taiwan’s security to American interests, highlighted certain bills we have our eyes on in the chambers, and gave our lawmakers historical context behind Taiwan‘s democratization following 40 years of martial law. We heard strong bipartisan support from our elected leaders and look forward to our continued partnership with their offices both in DC and back in NYC/NYS.
This ”Stand With Taiwan Action Day“ came on the heels of Formosan Association for Public Affairs hq ’s National Advocacy Conference, an annual gathering of advocates for Taiwan from 44 chapters across the country in our nation‘s capital. Over an exhilirating weekend, we partook in advocacy workshops, policy briefings, and keynotes. It also provided the opportunity to connect with our peers from across the country who so often are faces on a screen.
The next one couldn’t come sooner: in the meantime, if you‘d like to join us in advocating for Taiwan in New York, we welcome your outreach!
