isitors learn more than they expected to learn about our destination and all that it has to offer, where visitors enjoy themselves - and make plans to come back soon. What we do:

We promote a new standard of customer service, raising expectations of tourism and hospitality professionals who welcome visitors to the Memphis area. We provide training and certifications for people who interact with visitors - aka Insiders. Learn more about our classes. We manage a recognition program called , and we host the Pick Awards to recognize Insiders who go above and beyond to welcome visitors to the Memphis area. We develop tools and resources to support Insiders across the spectrum of the industry, including volunteers and employees in restaurants, hotels, attractions, retail, transportation, tours, vendor services, arts and entertainment, and sports.

This week, Welcome to Memphis and Memphis Tourism represented the city in style at the Destinations International Annual Conference in Portland!

🏆 Executive Director Marcus Cox was recognized at the DI awards for completing the Certified Destination Management Executive program, and shared insights on hospitality staff training at the Visitor Services Summit. His message: “Every hospitality employee is a visitor service specialist” equipped to create memorable guest experiences.

🎓 W2M also sponsored Memphis native Semiyah Smith, a junior at UA Pine Bluff and this year’s DI Pathways to Success Scholar, on her journey to the conference. We are proud to support her as she builds a career in hospitality.

Executive Director Marcus Cox spent the week in Las Vegas, Nevada, attending the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) Conference alongside partners from the Kemmons Wilson School, TCAT, and the University of Memphis. Marcus served as a panelist, sharing how Welcome to Memphis is helping build workforce development pathways that connect students with meaningful career opportunities in the hospitality and tourism industry ⭐️

It was a busy day for the Welcome to Memphis team! 👏

This morning, Marcus Cox welcomed new team members from Hyatt Centric with a Memphis Hospitality presentation, sharing insights and tools to help create memorable experiences for visitors and locals alike.

Later in the day, Hospitality Training Seminar participants earned their Welcome to Memphis Hospitality Professional Certification through a session led by Jillian Melton, with guest speakers Josh Rubin and Jared Boyd.

Congratulations to Yvette Jennings, winner of the 2026 Pick Award – Period Three in the Tour Guide/Docent Category! ✨

Working at the Memphis International Airport, Yvette exemplifies the very best of Memphis hospitality. When a traveler lost a jacket containing their truck keys, she went the extra mile to locate the item and personally deliver it before their flight departed.

She also made a lasting impact on passengers stranded overnight during icy weather conditions. From providing air mattresses, pillows, and blankets to answering questions and checking in throughout the night, Yvette’s kindness, compassion, and dedication helped travelers feel cared for during a difficult experience.
