Today an individual falsely claiming to be a MIFA caseworker contacted a MIFA donor by telephone in an attempt to secure a donation on behalf of a specific client. We want to make the community aware of this activity to help protect against similar attempts.

Legitimate MIFA fundraising requests come through official channels: mailed appeals, email communications, and phone calls from verified MIFA staff. While MIFA staff may contact prospective donors, volunteers, or community partners by phone as part of legitimate outreach, our fundraising supports MIFA's programs broadly; we do not collect funds directed to specific clients.

If you receive a suspicious call:
• Hang up and report it to the organization being impersonated.
• Do not provide any personal or payment information to the caller.
• If you're ever unsure whether a MIFA fundraising request is legitimate, contact Chief Development Officer Anna Kathryn Word at [email protected] or (901) 529-4523 to verify.

We take the trust of our donors and community seriously. We're grateful to the donor who reported this incident and ask you all to remain vigilant to avoid future scams.
