Practicing our letter can be the key to unlock early literacy and phonic awareness.

What does that mean? By connecting the upper and lowercase letters, children not only recognize the connection between the “big” and “little” versions of the letters, but also the the relationship between letters.

For example, If the “J” in Jam is capitalize it starts the word and the lowercase “m” ends the word.

Plus by recognizing letters and their relationships, preschoolers begin to read site words — a critical pre-literacy skill.

There are just a few spots left for the Harvest at Hinton: Annual PDGA Tournament, benefiting the 40,000 children and families served through Porter-Leath.

Harvest at Hinton presented by Pickler Wealth Advisors is a PDGA-sanctioned disc golf tournament in Collierville, Tennessee beginning October 24, 2026 and hosted by Pickler Wealth Advisors.

At Porter-Leath, food service workers play an important role in preparing meals for our students so that they are fueled for learning!

Applicants should have knowledge of food safety standards, have either a high school diploma or GED and at least two years school-based cooking experience.

Numbers are not just abstract symbols on a page. Porter-Leath teachers make numbers and math into tangible concepts waiting to be explored! 🎨🐛✨

In early childhood education, interdisciplinary learning is key to helping young minds grasp fundamental skills like numeracy. By blending art, tactile discovery, and playful problem-solving, children build deep neural connections that make math intuitive and engaging.

Finger painting allows children to associate a written numeral with its exact quantity by physically pressing dots onto paper. They feel the count as they create it!

Our interactive “math caterpillar” turns counting into a game of discovery. Lifting the number flap to reveal the matching dots inside reinforces one-to-one correspondence through visual curiosity.

When we integrate creative arts and hands-on visuals into STEM learning, children don’t just memorize numbers—they **understand** them. 🧠💡
