Memphis' economic advantage is its young people. Our city's greatest resource is its people, and one subset of the population is poised to make the most impact.

Longtime journalist Tom Jones (Smart City Consulting) and economics professor Dr. David Ciscel (University of Memphis) share insights on the economic structure of Memphis, provide context for why specific decisions were made, and offer a platform where Memphis has the economic advantage — its young people!

Renowned as the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll and home to blues, soul, and hip-hop icons, Memphis’s role in global music influence is undeniable. The music ecosystem in Memphis contributes significantly to the local economy — to the tune of $720+ million. Beyond the economic impact of the ecosystem itself, music has the power to be a significant source of social and cultural value. In 2025, the City of Memphis and the Greater Memphis Chamber released the first-ever Memphis Music Strategy to protect, grow, and sustain the city’s music ecosystem.

Join New Memphis on June 18 at The Guest House at Graceland for lunch and a conversation with leaders who are ensuring the industry is thriving for both artists and the city’s economy. Purchase tickets here: https://www.tfaforms.com/5218500
