The South Main Association is a non-profit neighborhood organization that strives to preserve the historical integrity of the South Main Historic Arts District, Memphis' first suburb, while showcasing its vibrancy, livability, and unlimited potential. For over 40 years, the area’s businesses catered to railroad passengers and employees with a wide variety of hotels, bars, restaurants and other fam
ily owned businesses. But when the golden age of the railroad came to a screeching halt in the 1960s, the once-burgeoning district became empty buildings and warehouses. In 1982, 11 blocks and 105 buildings were granted Historical District designation, and the area slowly began its comeback. Today, dozens of restaurants, upscale apartments, and galleries serve as a playground for artists, photographers, graphic designers driven by a renewed spirit – the same spirit that has driven multiple South Main renovation projects including state-of-the-art apartments, beautifully restored lofts, and boutique hotels. South Main has it all, from breathtaking views of the Memphis skyline and the Mississippi River to nationally recognized dining experiences and bespoke retail experiences. More importantly, South Main offers a robust home to the diverse residents who love the urban living experience and sense of community it inspires. We invite you to with us!
