Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, the day when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom on June 19, 1865—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and progress. It is also an opportunity to reflect on our nation's history, honor those who endured injustice, and recommit ourselves to expanding opportunity, strengthening communities, and investing in future generations.

At The Burroughs Foundation, we believe education is one of the most powerful ways to honor that legacy. We encourage everyone to take time today to learn more about the significance of Juneteenth and the stories that continue to shape our shared history.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving our country.

Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day began as a time to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers and has grown into a national day of remembrance for all who made the ultimate sacrifice in military service.

As we gather with family and community, may we also take time to reflect on the courage, service, and sacrifice that this day represents.

Congratulations to Our 2026 Teacher Mini-Grant Recipients!

As we close out Teacher Appreciation Week, we are thrilled to celebrate 32 exceptional Memphis-Shelby County Schools - MSCS educators selected for this year’s Teacher Mini-Grant Program.

Each recipient will receive a $500 shopping experience at Knowledge Tree to purchase classroom supplies and materials that support student learning in the upcoming school year.

We are grateful to Kevin Swinton, Esq., Chief Legal Officer at First Choice Global Merchandising, for closing out this year’s Palmer’s Executive Speakers Series with Benedict College students.

Since 2022–23, the series has brought business leaders to campus to share real-world experiences, leadership lessons, and career insights. This year’s speakers continued that tradition with powerful conversations that inspired and challenged our future leaders.
