The 2023 Whitehaven Empowerment Expo is THIS Thursday (October 5th) and this years Expo is centered around and . We are super excited to share that former Memphis Grizzlies star Tony Allen will be joining the Expo fun this year as a speaker and celebrity guest judge of the Expo’s first ever “TIGER TANK” competition. 10 Whitehaven students will have the opportunity to present their business plan to a panel of judges for a chance to win “seed funding” into their businesses in a “Shark Tank” style entrepreneurship competition…..We are super excited to have Workforce Mid-South partner with us to also provide a 6-week entrepreneurship course for the TIGER TANK participants to ensure these students have the entrepreneurial skills needed to be successful. 🖤💛

It’s not common for a Local Workforce Board to open itself up to honest 3rd party evaluation of effectiveness…especially in the midst of the lowest customer traffic numbers we’d seen in over a decade. I can’t wait to see that ROI number skyrocket as now we begin to leverage the multiple transformational opportunities ahead. It’s vital for our workforce system to get raw baseline data and commit to year over year increases in efficiency and impact to remain relevant.

Workforce Mid-South connects job seekers and employers, providing skills training and work opportunities for youth and adults. Either directly or through contracted service providers, Workforce Mid-South offers an array of services to support residents and businesses so residents have access to gainful employment and businesses have access to a skilled workforce; that way, the people who live or work in West Tennessee have the opportunity to thrive. Workforce Mid-South created more than $2.20 in estimated poverty-fighting benefits for each dollar it spent. Its American Job Centers are part of a one-stop shop model where job seekers and employers can come up to seek any type of service and Workforce Mid-South will connect them with the appropriate solution.
