After arriving in the UK from Ukraine, Alex faced a number of barriers to employment, including language, health and adapting to a new labour market.

With personalised support from The Forward Trust’s Connect to Work programme, funded by the Department for Work and Pensions, Alex built his confidence, developed his digital and English language skills and secured paid employment within four months.

His journey is a great example of the difference that tailored employment support can make.

Last month, we came together at The Old Library in Birmingham for the Forward Trust Staff Awards 2026, a special day celebrating the incredible staff and volunteers who go above and beyond across Forward.

With around 50 colleagues attending and 10 award categories, the event recognised an inspiring range of achievements, from leadership and innovation to collaboration, service delivery and the impact of our volunteers.

A huge congratulations to all our winners, finalists and nominees, and an even bigger thank you to everyone across Forward for the commitment and compassion you bring to your work.

As Jason Moore, Forward's Chief Operating Officer, said: “The work we are doing is changing lives, and every single one of our staff members deserves to feel proud of what we do.”

👏 Here’s to our incredible teams and to another 12 months of life-changing work.

From two days sober and on crutches, to sailing 500 miles. 🌊

When Ian arrived at The Bridges in June 2024, he was trapped in a cycle of addiction, relapse and homelessness.

A year later, through his recovery and connection with Cat Zero, he found himself sailing 500 miles along the British coast, learning new skills, navigating by the stars and even finishing 4th in a yacht race.

For Ian, the voyage was a powerful reminder of recovery: take things one day at a time, adapt to what comes your way, and do the next right thing.
