Every day we see the barriers our young musicians, graduate ambassadors and emerging educators face in building a career in music. So much of that comes down to how organisations work: their policies, practices, traditions and culture. The seen and the unseen. Questions about diversity and inclusion in our organisations matter now more than ever.

📢 I’M IN has relaunched today and is now open for sign-ups. It’s a structured equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) programme designed by with organisations working in music, for organisations working in music.

Our specially created digital platform combines self-assessment with one-to-one support from an experienced specialist, giving your people the time and space to look honestly at how inclusive your organisation really is, and providing the support to act confidently on what they find.

I’M IN brings together human connection and expertise with a brand-new digital platform to facilitate reflection and discussion, and a plan you can act on.

For Anna Lea (Music Masters Champion and Royal College of Music, London Junior Department student), great teachers do more than teach notes and technique. They inspire confidence, nurture talent and help young musicians grow both artistically and personally.
🎶Here’s what she had to say on ...

“Happy World Teacher Day! I believe that every child needs a teacher that supports and inspires them to be the musician that they want to be in the future.

When I started playing the cello at my Music Masters Flagship primary school, my first cello teacher taught me different ways to practise. She helped me to audition for the different conservatoires, and as a result, I got into the Royal College of Music Junior
Department!

I think it’s really important for teachers of younger children to be enthusiastic and engaging, so that children can develop a genuine love of learning a musical instrument.

The move up to secondary school meant a change of cello teachers and that’s when I began my studies with my current teacher at Royal College of Music. I’m now in Year 11 and over the past few years, he has taught me many cello techniques, as well as boosting my confidence. That confidence has helped me with big, high-profile performances, including playing alongside the thekannehmasons at the Barbican Centre and Julian Lloyd Webber at the Wigmore Hall , at Music Masters concerts last year.

One of the best things about my current teacher, is that he is always honest about my playing; as I’m 15, he has started to teach me as if I’m a professional musician, in order for me to develop the understanding of how it works in the industry. He has always pushed me to be the best cellist that I can be, helping me grow not only as a cellist, but as a person for the past 4 years. He has made playing the cello such a rewarding experience.

I’m so grateful to my teachers for inspiring me to pursue music as a future career.”

📢 Join us in welcoming Libi Winterstein as our brand new Graduate Ambassador!
Libi began learning violin with Music Masters in Year 2 at Flagship School - Jessop Primary.

Since then, with the help of her teachers and the support of our charity team, Libi has worked her way up to conservatoire level, recently accepting a place at the Royal Academy of Music for her degree studies.

In her new role of Music Masters Graduate Ambasssador, Libi will be an important voice for Music Masters, advocating for our work and giving the next generation of children at our Flagship Schools a hugely inspiring role model.
