🏆 Inverclyde Academy has achieved SCQF Gold — recognising the work the school has done to help young people understand their learning, choices and future pathways.

Choosing school subjects can be a big decision for young people - and for parents and carers too.

At the Inverclyde school, pupils are using Scotland's qualifications framework - the SCQF - to understand their choices and find a path that works for them.

The school’s SCQF Ambassadors help younger pupils choose subjects, talk to parents and carers, and share what they have learned from their own experiences.

It is helping to change the question from:

“Which qualification should I take?”

to:

“Where could my learning take me?”

For some pupils, that might mean academic study. For others, it could mean vocational learning, work-based learning or building skills through wider activities.

Hawick High School has secured SCQF Silver! 🥈

But what does that actually mean for the young people at the school?

It’s about being able to undertake qualifications that reflect their interests, such as Early Learning & Childcare, Forensic Science and Sports Coaching.

It's about being able to understand that what the SCQF is and how their achievements can support their next steps.

And it's about realising that there is no single pathway for every learner.

25 years ago, the SCQF was just beginning. So where will the next 25 years take us?

For the final day of SCQF Week 2026, we asked pupils to imagine where they see themselves in 25 years.

Their answers are ambitious, hopeful – and a great reminder that we can’t always predict where learning will take us.

As we celebrate 25 years of the SCQF, we’re looking ahead to the next 25.

The future is theirs. And we can’t wait to see where it takes them.

Twenty-five years ago, Terry was working in an outbound call centre. Today, he’s starting a Master’s degree.

In between came community activism, a false start in college, university, and a learning journey he could never have predicted.
