We’re pleased to announce £989,202 in funding for youth projects tackling social issues across Scotland, thanks to .

Young Start projects like Golspie Youth Action Project in the Highlands, that received a grant of £100,000 to support young people in rural areas like Imogen, 12, to become more involved in their community while building their confidence and enterprise skills.

When asked what she enjoys most about the project, Imogen who volunteers in the organisation’s youth-led charity shop said “I like having the craic with the customers and being part of the team. It has helped me feel more confident and given me new experiences.”

Claire Hamilton, Golspie Youth Action Project Charity Manager, shared their reaction to the news: “We are incredibly grateful for the support that will allow Golspie Youth Action Project to create new opportunities for local young people. Through volunteering, community activities and practical experiences, young people will be able to build confidence, develop valuable skills and play an active role in their community. We are excited to see the positive impact the project will have as it develops over the coming months.”

We’re working with the Scottish Tech Army to offer digital and technical support to our grant holders in Scotland.

The Scottish Tech Army works with third sector organisations across the UK, providing free support through its skilled volunteers.

You don't need to know exactly what kind of help you need – just tell them what's holding you back, and they will assess the issue and develop technical solutions to fix it.

They can help you:

- Identify and understand your problem and how tech can help fix this.
- Match up volunteers with projects based on their experience.
- Manage the project, from start to finish.
- Request additional support once the project has been delivered.

It Starts with Community. And it starts with you.

There are just seven weeks left to respond to the UK Government’s call for evidence, on how the money raised for good causes by National Lottery players should be spent – and they want to hear from individuals and groups across Scotland.

Since 1994, the National Lottery has generated over £53 billion for good causes – through projects that help people connect, grow and build a better future, all across Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England.

Our priorities, and our strategy It Starts With Community, have been shaped by 18,000 people across the UK who told us what their communities needed. And last year, our funding teams covering every postcode area of the UK funded an idea every 8 minutes.

We’re proud to announce that 6 community led projects will share over £2.1 million in the latest round of funding from the Scottish Land Fund.

Among them is Bays of Harris Community Estate Limited (BoHCEL) who purchased an almost 11,000 hectare crofting estate from a private seller in the Outer Hebrides using its £1,082,680 grant.

The grant will help address long-standing housing issues in the area and is one of six totalling £2,197,924 that has been awarded today to communities across the country.

Another win in Glasgow! 🏸

Thanks to players, Jhankar Beats is using badminton to help people get active, boost wellbeing and build new friendships.

Their project is one of 87 across Scotland helping communities celebrate the Commonwealth Games in their own way.

In Livingston, Scotland, Daisy Drop In is a vital support for local families, helping people like Donna thrive and feel like part of the community. 🌻.

When Donna had her second child, she moved to a new area and found herself sitting in the house alone with her son every day because she didn’t know anyone. She often walked past Daisy Drop In and the day she decided to go in everything changed.

“The Daisy [Drop In] was great at making me feel like part of the community, I walk along the street and know people, I made friends who lived really nearby and it gave me somewhere to go every day. It made me feel like part of something.”

Through Daisy Drop In, Donna also accessed childcare courses which helped her get a job in a creche and led to her studying childcare at college. Now Donna has gone full circle and is a Playworker at Daisy Drop In, organising messy play, art, music and rhythm for people like her daughter and grandchildren to enjoy.

“If it wasn’t for the Daisy I wouldn’t be where I am today, I wouldn’t have the friendships I’ve got. They have helped me with everything.”

We know how important it is for families with young children to feel supported and thanks to players, groups like Daisy Drop In can provide a welcome and inviting space for children and parents to learn and grow.

We’re delighted to share that we’ve invested £10 million over five years in The Scottish Government's Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) Community Buildings Fund to help power community energy projects across Scotland.

The investment will benefit community groups across the country, helping to fund the installation of renewable technologies like heat pumps and solar panels, as well as energy efficiency measures.

CARES provides advice and funding to communities looking to develop renewable energy, heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency projects.

“We hope that the activities provided will inspire the next generation of cyclists, and who knows, we could be seeing them at the Commonwealth Games in a decade or two!”

Across the Forth Valley, Recyke-a-bike are delivering community cycling sessions, helping more people build confidence on two wheels.

Thanks to players, the project will support cycling skills, access to adapted bikes and free bike repairs for people in low-income and rural areas. So more people can get moving and enjoy the benefits of cycling.

And who knows, maybe some participants will be lining up at a future Commonwealth Games! 🏅
