We are appalled and angered by the racist and anti-migrant riots that have taken place in Glasgow, Belfast, and elsewhere in the UK.
To every student and staff member who feels less safe because of these events: you belong here, and you deserve to feel safe, respected and supported in our University community.
The SRC stands firmly against racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism and all forms of bigotry. No one should be targeted or made to feel unsafe because of their race, faith, nationality or migration status.
We are in contact with the University, including the Security team, to make sure student concerns are being heard and acted on and we will continue to push for studentsβ safety, wellbeing and concerns to be taken seriously.
Please remember that the SRC is here to support and represent you. Take care, look out for each other, and use the support routes linked on our website (link in bio π) if you are worried, feel unsafe, need advice, or want to report a concern.
Yours,
Duncan, Ayush, Frank, and Eoghan
