Thank you to Dundee United Football Club for hosting MND Scotland’s LEARN event today. It was inspiring to hear Graham’s lived experience and learn more from researchers working in the field of MND, including Dr Judith Sleeman from University of St Andrews. It was also great to hear from Rosie Sinclair from Euan's Guide about Euan’s MND Scotland Guide – a tailored online platform that will provide trusted access information to meet the needs of people with MND.

Since launching in 2024, our LEARN events have brought together hundreds of people affected by MND and MND researchers to share knowledge, experiences and opinions.

Donald Macleod, son of MND Scotland’s founder, John Macleod, is taking on the East Highland Way in support of other families affected by the disease across Scotland 💙

In 1981, police officer John Macleod set up the ‘Scottish MND Association’ from his living room, two years after he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease (MND) at age 33.

Supported by his loving wife Peigi, their family, friends and John’s police colleagues, a new charity was born which aimed to provide support for others going through this frightening disease.

Donald is the eldest of John and Peigi MacLeod’s three sons. He was just 10 years old when his father was diagnosed with MND, and only 13 years old when his father sadly passed away.

Joined by five of his friends, Iain Ramsay, Ross Duthie, Eamonn Keane, Alun Williams, and Keith Fairbairn, Donald and the team are walking the East Highland Way (approx. 82 miles) 🏔️ over four days to help raise vital funds for MND Scotland.

We would like to say a huge thank you to the wonderful team at Kane Enviro for helping to raise £1,400 for MND Scotland at their recent charity Golf Day! 🏌️

Michelle Hagen, Head of Sales at Kane Enviro, sadly lost her husband to motor neuron disease six years ago. Since that time, Michelle has been a great supporter of MND Scotland, having taken on various challenges over the years to help raise awareness and funds for other families affected by the disease.

MND Scotland Fundraising Assistant, Eve Hughes, recently met with Michelle to accept the generous donation on behalf of the families we support.

Michelle said, "This is a charity that is very close to our hearts. Having seen first-hand how MND Scotland can assist and bring help and comfort to people in their hour of need with this terrible disease. When people are living through this, you are so caught up in the moment, all advice and support offered is a great help. We want charities like MND Scotland to continue the excellent work they do, and we hope this donation will help them do this."

LEARN Dumfries ✅

What a great turnout yesterday for our very first LEARN event in Dumfries! It was great to see so many people come along to meet MND researchers and people affected by MND to share thoughts, experiences, and conversations. Thank you all for your input.

We want to thank Marina McGougan for speaking at the event. Marina, originally from Aberdeenshire, moved to Dumfries & Galloway to start her career in teaching. In 2019, Marina's partner Alasdair was diagnosed with MND and sadly died in 2020. Marina became interested in research and the progress being made to find a cure, and has taken on a role as a carer representative on the Medical Research Council's MND Translational Accelerator (MNDAcc) executive and management network.
