It’s good to see that vets are speaking out about this. Commercial companies that own vet practices are happy to sell these products to us over the counter as often as we will buy them, but the vets themselves aren’t using them that way on their own pets. As animal lovers, we don’t want to be contributing to the decline of species that enrich our rivers. Research suggests the chemicals are mainly reaching watercourses from our homes rather than just when a pet goes for a swim. If we are repeatedly using these products, we’ll have them on our hands, our clothes, and whatever our pets sit or lie on. We wash them from our hands, clothes and bedding into the water system. If you're walking past the canal in , Glasgow, you'll notice that things look a bit different. The historic Kelvin Aqueduct, which has carried the canal over the River Kelvin for more than 235 years, is currently dewatered and undergoing investigations.

The aqueduct is a highly significant heritage structure. While it was under construction, the French Revolution was raging and Mozart was in his heyday! It is now a goldmine of information about the approaches used by the original canal builders.

Read our blog to learn more about our recent archaeological find.

When it rains, litter doesn't stay where it's been dropped. It gets carried over land and through drains..into rivers...some gets stuck in silt and really impacts on the lives of the creatures who call the river home...and some goes out to sea. Pollution reduces oxygen levels, poor water quality affects us all.
See you there! Dress for the weather!

An update for those of you who helped with wildflower planting behind Ha’penny Bridge House in March last year. Over the bank holiday weekend we have taken out some of the big over-abundant plants that have been overwhelming what’s beneath, and we’ve found some of what we planted. The first photo features some wood sage, greater stitchwort, speedwell and self heal. In the second there are some primroses and more self heal. The two honeysuckle plants and the bluebells are doing well, and we’ll hope to see some of the Devil’s bit scabious later in the summer. We’ve left the garlic mustard that has seeded itself - we spotted an orange tip butterfly visiting it last week, but no photo!

Twelve! They have no idea how much joy they are bringing to the people who spot them as we walk, run, wheel or cycle along the walkway….whether they are swimming along in single file, hitching a ride on their mother’s back or tail, or they are skittering around in the shallows - you can hardly help but smile.

How many ducklings? Maybe five, maybe six? See next post for the big reveal!
