Advocacy is often about more than a conversation between two people.

There are lots of different ways we support people to express their views and what matters to them.

Below are some examples of approaches our Connect Team have used recently including LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®, poster making and activities with peers to boost confidence.

If you're part of a community group and would like our support to run engaging activities focussed on involving people, get in touch with The Connect Team 👋

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 💜

Mental health affects every part of our lives: it shapes how we feel, how we connect with others, and how we find the confidence to speak up for ourselves. That's why looking after ourselves, even in small ways, is an act of self-empowerment.

Today we're sharing this brilliant resource from the Mental Health Foundation: ten simple, quick actions we can take today to boost our mood and wellbeing, even on low energy days:

1. Open the windows
2. Try chair yoga
3. Head outside
4. Try a minute of mindfulness
5. Drink water
6. Phone a friend
7. Try a breathing exercise
8. Create a relaxing bedtime routine
9. Practice gratitude
10. Be kind to yourself

🤩We've just wrapped up two incredible empowerment sessions at The Women's Centre Glasgow, and we were so delighted to see the feedback too: 100% satisfaction from participants, with some returning for more.

📢These sessions are all about building confidence, connection and community, but also increasing awareness of our rights and knowledge of other supports.

💡Want to bring this to your group? We offer free empowerment sessions for organisations and community groups. Drop us a message to find out more or email us at [email protected]

Looking forward to delivering the first session later this week with The Women's Centre Glasgow 🙌

Just two days left until the Self Directed Support Scotland National Voice Conference 🎉

Last year, The Advocacy Project hosted a workshop on Supported Decision Making, and this year we're very excited to be back with a stall!

Come chat with us about advocacy and how it can support people going through an SDS process. We'd love to see you there.

It is Monday again and in a week we have our next Parents Advocacy Group meeting.

📢What is the Parents Advocacy Group?

It's a supportive space where parents facing barriers in advocating for their child's educational rights can come together to:
-Share their experiences and ideas.
-Work collectively to drive change.
-Connect with others in similar situations.
-Advocate for their own rights and the rights of their children.

👥Who can join?

Any parent across Glasgow or East Renfrewshire who is experiencing barriers when advocating for their child's rights in education. No referral needed, just show up and be part of the conversation.

🙌 If you know a parent who could benefit from this support, please share this post.

Happy Wednesday! Let's catch up on what we've been up to at The Advocacy Project.

Last Thursday, we had a wonderful time at the Thursday Community Café at The Pyramid at Anderston We spent the afternoon chatting with community members about their rights, what matters most to them, and how advocacy can make a difference. It was great having these meaningful conversations in a relaxed setting over a warm cup of tea. ☕️

Yesterday, our colleagues Michelle and Kerry delivered donations collected by The Advocacy Project to East Renfrewshire Foodbank. We're grateful to everyone who contributed and proud to support our local community.

This week we completed the first phase of independent evaluations for Help Yourself Grow, delivered by Fairdeal! 🌱

We've been conducting these evaluations for many years, and it's been wonderful to continue this partnership.

Help Yourself Grow runs gardening and cooking courses for young adults in Glasgow who have learning disabilities. We evaluated these courses using accessible and creative methods including:

✅1-2-1 surveys using easy-read principles and custom symbols
✅Talking Mats - a communication framework for people with communication difficulties
✅Group evaluations with visual facilitation, where trainees co-created colourful posters.

🙌 It's been brilliant to see how accessible evaluation methods can truly empower people to share their experiences and views in ways that work for them.
